Course Scheduling for Freshmen?

I haven't seen this addressed elsewhere. Can anyone tell me how and when Fall course scheduling happens for incoming freshmen?

Sometime in late June/early July, IIRC, your student will get an instruction packet in the mail with information about course pre-registration. Students will be allowed to pre-register online shortly afterwards, but schedules won’t receive final approval until after they meet with their advisors during orientation.

Students with AP/IB credits may not be able to register for upper level coursework during pre-registration. (The registrar has to receive their exam grades first and credit has to be authorized.) Enrollment in some upper level classes requires an advisor override and cannot be done during the pre-registration.

I believe incoming freshmen may enroll in a maximum of 4 classes (along with required recitations/labs/workshops) first semester.

Some of the smaller classes fill quickly (especially some of the more popular freshman writing topics). However, the required lecture classes for majors (into level sciences, engineering, CS, math, econ, psych etc) will accommodate everyone who want to enroll.

W/R/T freshman writing–students don’t need to take it first semester. All of the writing topics will be offered again in the spring if your freshman gets closed out a topic s/he really wants.

Thanks very much WOWMom. That’s very helpful!
