I will be attending Northeastern in the fall and am SOOO excited. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about registering for courses? I know that it happens during orientation, but I can't find any other information about it on the website. If anyone has any insight, please share!! (:

Hi, I’ll also be a freshman in the fall! From what I’ve heard, a majority of your classes are pre-selected when you get to that “registration” meeting with your advisor. Like, the pre-req classes for your major. If you have any AP credit/IB/college, bring them to this meeting on the official transcripts things, and you’ll transfer that credit then. That’s all I really know, but I’m interested to know more too!

Both of you guys have pretty much the right idea. The first semester courses are usually all preset for you by the time you come to orientation and there is some flexibility if you bring in AP/IB credit. In that case, the advisors will have a list of electives that you can choose from to replace the courses that you waived out of with the credit.
btw - congrats on your acceptances! :D

Oh ok great! Just wanted to make sure hahah so even though they have what courses you’re going to be taking first semester basically sorted out for you, do you at least get to choose to some extent what time of day the classes are etc or do you not really have any say first semester?

Depends really - for some there’s only one section of the course so you’re stuck with that time. Others might have multiple sections and it might be possible to switch to a different time if you talk to the advisor.
But I think the best thing I can say is just be really open to talking with your advisor during orientation when you meet with them. Usually if there’s a problem, they’ll make at least some effort to try to come to middle ground minimum.
What major are you in if you don’t mind me asking?

My advisor was really helpful when I met with her during orientation. She even got me into an art class for an elective that was marked as for art majors only. :)
