So I just found out there was a conflict in my schedule (of course) for next year. I’m a rising senior and choosing between AP Euro and AP Psych. My plan is to major in history, but recently I’ve been unsure whether I actually want to read dusty old books about dead people for the rest of my life.
Some pros and cons:
-AP Euro at my school is kind of a joke and would be a nice GPA boost
-The same teacher teaches H Psych and AP Euro, so I don’t want to take both
-This shouldn’t matter, but all of my friends are in psych and I’d pretty much be alone in euro
-I would definetly challenged in AP Psych and it would be nice to broaden my horizons
*With the new schedule I’d be taking AP Euro and H Law (which I have no interest in) or AP Psych and H Economics (which, suprise, suprise, I also have no interest in)
*Any opinions would be great bc I have no clue what to do. Thanks
As a potential history major, I’d take AP Euro. You could get that course out of the way for college if you get a 4 or 5 on the AP Exam. And worst case scenario, you drop the history major, you have a GenEd completed.
A prospective history major probably should take some course work in other subjects including psychology and economics (as well as such things as sociology, anthropology, statistics, art history, and literature), in order to have more context to go with the history being studied.
If you are not sure of what you may want to major in for college, you may want to take a wider selection of courses beyond the base curriculum in high school in order to gauge your interest.
AP euro is generally seen as more rigorous and a better indication of your interest in history.
There’s being said, what else would you be taking? Is your school on block scheduling? Any chance you can tie a class through dual enrollment (also called running start or PSEO)?
