Right now I am taking Honors French 3, Honors Chem, Honors US History 1, Honors Algebra 2, Honors British Literature, and Wind Ensemble.
I am really interested in majoring in International Relations and eventually becoming a lawyer, maybe a concentration in French. So, really enjoying history and languages and writing, I am trying to take harder classes in those.
Next year I plan to take Honors French 4, Honors Physics, APUSH, Honors Precalc, AP English, Wind Ensemble, and Honors Arabic 1.
However, I am heavily debating taking AP Bio, which would replace Arabic. At my school, Arabic is only offered to Honors Arabic 2 (senior year). I actually dropped out of AP Bio this year, as I did poorly on the first test and did not realize I could have actually suceeded.
My guidance counselor recommended I not take AP Bio because I am not looking for a medical career and that Arabic would look good as I am looking to major in International Relations.
What do you recommend?
“My guidance counselor recommended I not take AP Bio because I am not looking for a medical career and that Arabic would look good as I am looking to major in International Relations.”
I TOTALLY AGREE. He is giving you sound advise.
I would agree with your counselor with the caveat that you should have a conversation in advance with the Arabic teacher to see if 2 years of HS Arabic are in his/her mind equivalent to at least 1, preferably 2 semesters of college Arabic. The language is a hard one to learn, and you would need to continue in college if you want to to even get remotely proficient, and it would suck to have to start back at square one.
If the 2 years of HS Arabic were not equivalent to at least 1 semester of college Arabic, would you suggest not taking it? I am afraid I would not be able to manage three AP courses as I engage in a lot of extracurriculars.
Well, 2 different issues.
Personally, I would not take it if I did not think that I could place out of a semester in college.
Well, you know yourself best. There are many juniors who take 3+ AP courses with a ton of EC’s and they manage just fine. However, at the end of the day, you should choose the class that feels right for you.
I have decided on taking Arabic, thanks for everyone’s input
