Course Selection for Junior Year (UCLA)

Hi, everyone!

I’d really appreciate some help with course selections for next year, as I’ve been a bit conflicted in some areas. My dream school is UCLA, and have recently learned that they only look at sophomore and junior grades, and give a 1 point bump for APs? Could someone confirm this, and if this is the case, would I want to take more APs?

I’m out of state and am going to be a junior next year. I got a 3.6 unweighted GPA freshman year and I’m ending sophomore year with a 3.6 as well :frowning: So, I’ve told myself, my priority is raising my GPA.

I was planning on taking APUSH, AP Calc AB, and Physics 3 (honors) for next year. However, I was deciding between physics and AP bio. I chose physics but if UCLA gives an extra point for AP classes, should I take AP Bio? Would a B in AP Bio look worse than an A in Physics honors or the same? And do you think if possible, I should take AP Bio over the summer so I can still take physics and get an AP class in?

Sorry for the rambling, I have a lot of questions and would really appreciate some advice from those of you that are more knowledgeable about this kind of stuff!

For OOS, honors classes do not get the extra GPA weighting. Take AP classes, but your focus should be getting the best possible standardized test scores, so take SAT prep classes instead of AP courses during the summer.

Do you think it would be a good idea to take AP Bio online during the school year? If I want to take physics, bio won’t fit into my school schedule.

Make sure you take a physics course before college.
