Course Selection Strategy for Internal Transfer to McCombs

My son was accepted as an Economics major at UT Austin. He would like to consider transferring into McCombs.

We understand that GPA is the most important factor when being consider for internal transfer. We also understand that all applicants must take Calc 1, Calc 2, Micro and Macro. Economics majors are also required to take those same classes.

In order to maximize his GPA should he take some of the required classes at a CC? As an economics major is he ALLOWED to take some of these classes at a CC? He is OOS (NY). Can he take classes at a CC in NY over the summer?

Transferring into McCombs would be nice, but not the be all end all.
