Course Validation

I had always read that USNA validates mid placement in courses; i.e. that AP tests were not accepted for placement in second level courses.

This website appears to indicate otherwise; that high enough AP scores will validate placement out of entering classes. http://usna.edu/acdean/candidateinfo/validation.pdf

Comments?

My understanding previously was that it took AP results PLUS verification via plebe summer testing. This site implies that the AP alone will allow validation.

Any plebes out there that can comment on last summer's experience?

When 08 went through, I know everyone had to take the validation tests regardless of AP scores. As far as I know AP classes didn't count at all for us. We had to do well on the Academy's tests to validate anything. The policy may have changed since then, I will find out and report back. ( shudder )

I found this on the Academy's public site, and from the site listed above it does appear that a high enough score on an AP test will validate the course for you.

"Can I get credit for Advanced Placement courses or college work I've completed?

More than half of those entering the Naval Academy validate one or more courses. Each of the Academy's academic departments sets its own validation standards and considers one or more of the following: --transcripts;
--department validation tests, administered at the Naval Academy; and
--College Entrance Examination Board Achievement and Advanced Placement tests.
In any case, midshipmen must take a minimum of 15 credit hours each semester and spend a total of four years in residence at the Naval Academy to complete professional courses and training."
