Does anyone know if inorganic chem should be taken before organic chem? What if you have AP credit for inorganic, skip inorganic, and go onto organic? Will you be unprepared for organic then?

Go to http://www.advising.ufl.edu - you can contact an advisor by phone even if you are an incoming freshman, as long as you have your UFID number. If you don't have the number or don't want to call, Preview is the perfect time to ask a question like this.

Hey puppydogeyes, I can answer you. You probably have credit for general chemistry (CHM 2045) if you pass the ap exam not inorganic chem (CHM 3610). Most peope take the classes in this order: gen chem 1&2 (CHM 2045/ CHM 2046), then organic chem 1&2(CHM 2210/ CHM 2211), then analytical chem (CHM 3120) or biochem (CHM3218 or BCH 4024), then inorganic chem (CHM 3610), and lastly physical chem (CHM 3400). Also remember that all these classes have labs associated with them expect organic chem 1. Any other questions.

I dont find the advisors very help at all esp at preview. If you tell me what your major is, score on the ap chem exam, math background (precal, cal), and you gen ed stats then I could give you a recommended schedule for fall.

Thank you ASMAJ, you are awesome! Well, I passed the AP Chem test with a 5, I've taken Calculus AB in high school as my highest math course, but have not taken Statistics. As far as Gen Ed requirements, I'm an incoming freshman, so nothing done there yet! Thanks again. You're a big help.

MAC 2311(Calculus 1)(4 credits)-unless you get a 5 on the AP exam or 4 and you think you know the subject really well, I would retake Calc 1. Calc 2 here is very hard class.

CHM 2046/ CHM 2046L (Gen. Chem 2 w/ Lab)(4 credits)-since you got a 5 you can waiver both chem 1 (chm2045) and chem 2 (chem2046), but I would not advise skipping gen chem entirely and going to organic. I would advise you to take chm2046 or take chm2047(one semester gen chem). You shouldnt have a problem taking either since you got a 5 on the ap exam.

Since you did take any ap eng lit/lang, ap psych, ap history, ap gov, you are going to have to complete you gen ed requirements for physical sciences (9 credits), biological science (9 credits), humanities (9), social sciences (9), and international diversity (6 credits). With the average class being 3 credits. Also 24,000 words.

Obtaining biological and physical credits will be easy because you have to take physics (phy2048/53 and phy2049/54) and biology (bsc2010 and bsc2011) anyways.

For humanities(H) I suggest theater appreaciation (THE2000)(gives you H), History of Jazz (MUH4016)(gives you H and I), and Music Lit (MUH2010)(Gives you H, I, and 6000 words). All three are very, very easy classes even if you dont have a music background.

For words i suggest ENC1101, ENC1102, and ENC2210 (Tech Writing). ENC1102 is thought to be generally harder than the other too. Tech Writing is very easy.

Potential Schedule: (total of 14 credits)
CHM 2046 (Gen Chem 2)(3 credits)
CHM 2046L (Gen Chem 2 Lab)(1 credit)
MAC2311 (Calc 1) (4 credits)
THE 2000 (Theater Apprec.)(3 Credits)
ENC2210 (Tech Writing)(3 credits)

asmaj, i had a few specific questions concerning prerequisites and ap credits. Do you mind if I pm you?

Sure, what are they?

Wow ASMAJ, you are so wonderfully helpful and informative. I hope everyone at UF is as nice as you are.

Does anyone have a potential schedule for marketing majors (Business). I know my D needs both micro and macro economics freshman year (but which one first?), which math? (she is currently in honors calc), what else?

does anyone have potential schedual for pre med?

micro, i believe, should come before macro. They're fairly different classes, but the basic concepts of micro will have to be applied toward macro as well, so micro should be taken first. For math in marketing, you just need the survey of calculus I course (MAC 2233). I think you can receive credit for that class if you pass the ap calc exam. If she is already in honors calc and doing well, she probably shouldnt have a problem with the class.

Since I noticed that the GE requirement is 6 credits of Mathmatics and MAC 2233 is only 3, should she take MAC 1140 (3 credit Precal) or 1147 (4 credit precal and trig) before the calculus or should she take the CGS Computer class (3 credits) only (it also can count toward GE-M credit i think and it is a "critical tracking course" for the major).

I can respond to seiclan, babaloo, kmforsale, and puppy.. later on tonight. I am still studying for my final.

^it's krnforsale but w/e.lol.
