Does anyone have any reccomendations on what classes to take fall and spring semesters of freshman year for a Kelley Direct Admit? I will have history credits from APUSH, and I have to scores to get out of W-131, I will be taking finite at a local community college, and I will have credit from AP stat. Thanks in advance.
I would first recommend getting the earliest orientation date as possible as that is crucial to getting some good classes. Note that your AP Stat credit will not exempt you from STAT-S 301.
Fall (16.5 credits)
BUS-K 201
BUS-C 104
FOLK-F 111 (AH and WC course but take with Javier Leon. Super easy class)
PSY-P 101 (NM course)
SPH-H 170 (Super easy course help get acclimated to college and roughly half the class is football/basketball players)
BUS-T 175
Spring (16 credits)
MUS-Z 280 (AH and WC and super easy course)
ECON-E 201
BUS-K 303
BUS-D 270 (1st 8-weeks and must take with Dave Harrison or it is not as easy)
BUS-D 271 (2nd 8-weeks and recommend taking with Dave Harrison)
SPH-H 263 (Super easy class but must take with Kathy Finley; same teach as H170 above)
BUS-A 100 (1st 8-week period)
If you will have 26 credits completed by the end of your first semester you will be able to take D270 and D271. I recommend doing that to get it out of the way.
I would also recommend taking MATH-M 119 at a local community college over the summer. Probably going into your sophomore year. If you are from Indiana look into Ivy Tech CC. Taking BUS-L 201 and ECON-E 202 online there is really easy as well. They charge $150 per credit hour and it is really worth it. Your sophomore year would look like this.
Fall
BUS-A 201
BUS-C 204 (recommend taking it with Pam Sklar)

Spring

You could take I-Core Spring of Sophomore year, which would allow you to study abroad fall of Junior year, or you could add a minor and begin taking major courses. What majors or minors do you plan on pursuing? I would be glad to help you plan it out!
Great thank you for the post! I plan on majoring in finance with a possible minor in accounting and plan on pursuing either an investment banking or investment management career. As of now I don’t have too much exposure to either. If I want to be able to join Hutton Honors College and get a 3.7 first semester while also putting myself in a good position to apply for business honors, would this schedule be appropriate? Thank you again!
I would double check what O Gmudboner posted. I suggest taking 14-15 hours your first semester, not 16. You have high aspirations, so your GPA will dictate which direction your college career will lead you. Do not take gen ed classes just to fill your schedule. Think seriously about taking some at a junior college over the summers or on-line. My daughters lowest grades have been in the “easy gen ed” classes, so be careful!
I don’t think MUS-Z counts towards World Cultures. I looked it up and it is in the Arts and Humanities.
It is tough to work ahead in the business classes. Enrollment is based only on how many hours you have completed, and believe me, there are a ton of kids taking the business courses, and they will be in line ahead of you. Many students minor in business, so older students can fill the seats in classes you thought would be easy to get.
All of the Kelley course must be completed before one can apply to take I Core. I asked my daughter ( who is a current sophomore and was a direct admit to Kelley, Hutton Honors College, and Business Honors) about Sophomores taking I Core and she did not think that was even a possibility.
Good luck!
You paddlemom3,
Are a miss guided lamb that needs coddling from its mother. If one is truly concerned about GPA then why would you only take 14 credits? Filling your schedule up with the most credits possible (with some classes that are guaranteed A’s) would boost your GPA more than spending more time studying for harder classes.
But hey. That’s none of my business.

If you want a 3.7 then take as many easy courses as possible to boost your GPA.
To OGmudboner- It’s so sad that you resort to name calling because you don’t like a different opinion! If you read my message, it suggests to take as many gen ed’s as possible at a junior college in order to protect your GPA. When you get a little older and wiser and sign up for interviews you might notice that most companies have GPA requirements just to get your foot in the door. So good luck filling your schedule with easy gen. ed’s! It’s the business classes that carry more weight, so put your effort into them. Hard work will pay off!
