Courses for next year?

Hey, I am currently a sophomore (I know its a little early), but I am signing up for courses for my junior year. I am really interested in the Weinberg College for Arts and Sciences. I am generally an A student except for Spanish. Would it be worth it dropping Spanish next year because it is always the course that is lowering my GPA. I am currently in Spanish IV. Anyways, these are my prospective courses for next year for right now:

AP Calc AB
AP Biology
AP Chemistry
AP English Language
AP U.S History
Spanish V?

What would you recommend? Science is my strongest subject for sure.

If you have completed Spanish IV, and it is not a subject you plan to major in college, IMHO…drop the Spanish. Expand your horizons…take something in humanities or sports or the arts or ?

I agree. Drop Spanish and take up another AP. Preferably an AP science or AP stat (joke, btdubbbs).

I dropped spanish and am going to graduate having taken all AP sciences and math.

Although for your consideration: if you take AP span and get a 4 or 5, you waive the language requirement for WCAS.

Thanks for the input!

However, my Spanish teacher is saying that I should take at least three years of a foreign language in high school because some college require at least three years.

If I put the extra effort and manage the A in Spanish V next year, would it be to my advantage? (rather than dropping it)

I got waitlisted at Northwestern but accepted to other selective schools (Bowdoin, Carleton) and I dropped Spanish my junior year to pick up an AP science. I do not feel like this choice hurt my chances in any way.

I don’t think dropping Spanish will hurt you. However, I advise you to keep the language unless you are doing poorly in it

If you can pull off the A, and especially if you can do the AP test, keep the Spanish. Getting a 4 or 5 on the test and you’ll meet the foreign language req before you even get there.

My S was accepted to NU (proposed physics major) and also accepted into the honors Integrated Science Program. His language studies stopped sophomore year, when he took AP Spanish Language (received a 5 on the AP exam.)

Prior to this time, he attended a Spanish Language Immersion elementary school (5 years), had his 6th and 7th grade social studies classes taught in Spanish, in 8th grade had Spanish II and in 9th grade Spanish III. He also went on a 6 week student exchange program during 5th grade to Guadalajara, Mexico.

We asked his GC to address the pre-HS Spanish classes and experience, which were easily documented from his grade reports (plus he was also in the same school district K-12.)

FindAPlace, wow. Having that kind of Spanish background would be incredible.
