Looks like the Covid increases got the best of them. They did not have a lot of quarantine space and positive test shot out the roof. It’s unfortunate but they didn’t seem to have a solid plan as an outsider looking in. We have to wait and see if the other VA colleges fair better over the next few weeks.
It’s “fare” better btw ;-). (sorry but it IS a college forum:-)
It’s cynical but I feel they now have the housing checks mostly cleared and are dangling the (remote) possibility of an Oct return to ensure they all clear. Then a small percentage of that may be offered as a refund. A shame as the classes and hallways are well coordinated and responsibly handled. Unfortunately the eating areas are a zoo with people crowding around each other constantly. Going in on the off-hours seemed the more sensible choice (until everybody else starts doing it) .
What seems MOST irresponsible is to bring all the students together, have them get sick (either due to poor planning or their own foolish party attitude), and now ship them back home where they may get their parents (possibly elderly) sick.
What a disaster.
I don’t think they expected this … maybe because Harrisonburg has not been a hot bed for Covid they thought they could control. They just didn’t seem to have a good testing plan … especially when JMU has such a huge Northeast and DC population.
