I know that articles from the Times magazine is very similar to reading passges on the SATs, and I also know that I need to read them daily which will help me improve my comprehension skill in the long run. Instead of just reading the articles, what else do you guys think I should do to improve my skill?

When I read the Times magazine or the newspaper, I am absolutely clueless on what the author is trying to say. For e.g. Today i read an article about Nicolas cage on the style section of the Washington post. Although I already knew that the article was regarding to him, I was absolutely clueless on what the author was trying to say about him. What should i do to fix this also?
