Crappy Housing For Frosh!

Eugh. So disapointing. No Fulbright or Potomac for Freshmen. No appartment style for freshmen. Apperently these are the halls available :

Thurston (gag noise)

LaFayette

Crawford

Madison

2034 G Street

tear

It's highly rare that you'll get apartment-style housing for freshmen. It's sort of a "climbing-the-ladder" system as you progress through GW.

But just think, your room will have a private bathroom and housekeeping services. Better than the vast majority of schools in the country!

Do all the halls have housekeeping?

All freshmen will have housekeeping. The service consists of having most of your bathroom clean (they can't touch your stuff), toilet paper replaced, room floor swept/vacuumed (again, they can't touch your stuff), and maybe take out your trash. So it pays to be nice and pick up after yourself.

They won't make your bed, give you new sheets, or do any of your laundry. It's a pretty basic service.

Madison doesn't seem that bad and nor does Lafayette.

That's true... Now that I've looked into them I quite like both Madison and LaFayette. Really really hoping I don't get Thurston though...

Thurston is huuuuuge. I think most freshmen live there, or at least a larger chunk than any other hall. Honors program students get priority for Lafayette if I remember correctly, and it's much smaller than Thurston, but the latter has all the big parties and stuff.

I was very impressed with the housing at GWU!!! Thurston puts other schools' dorms to shame... it may not be the newest, but......they are huge and they have private bathrooms!!! i was impressed...

I think you all aren't quite giving thurston the credit it deserves. I absolutely love thurston. It may not look the nicest but the environment is definitely the most fun and living with so many other freshman is great.

Also dont be dissapointed about your housing options. Crawford, Madison, and G street were sophmore residences this year and are probably really nice. Lafayette does not hold many people and is very small so the social scene there is really limited.

If you do end up going for Thurston (which I VERY highly recommend) try to get a triple. There is a lot of room in a triple and i have seen some really cool arrangements. If you are looking for personal space I would go triple, six, five, double, quad. The quads do not give you very much privacy but if you are okay with bunking beds then they can actually give you a lot of room.

One final tip, be the first one to arrive on move-in day. I know it is a long way away but the first one there can arrange the room as they like it and take whichever bed they want and then tell the other roomates that that is how the room was originally set up.

Any more questions feel free to message me.

I wouldn't say Lafayette's social scene is limited. It's just different. Each building has its own different vibe given the number of students and size of building. In Lafayette, you get really close with your roommates and floormates. It can get really tight-knit. It's not for everybody just as Thurston is not for everybody.
