Hi all

I've done all the Princeton Review and College Board counceling surveys that exist, and both seem to think that NYU is a solid match for me. Princeton Review actually selected it as the best school for me, both academically and extracurricularly (I like making up words...).

However, my academic stats make me wonder about this information... What do you all think?

SAT: 660 CR, 660 M, 690 W (Avg accepted: 1318)
GPA: 3.3 (Avg accepted: 3.63)
Rank: N/A (My school doesn't rank)

The school is highly competitive and I take a combination of Honors, AP and A level courses. My extracurriculars are out of this world, and show constant committment to several impressive organizations (Forensics, as an example) as opposed to dodgy dedication to a laundry list of clubs. I have great essays because writing is one of my stronger assets. Additionally, I have great reccomendations under my belt.

The SATs don't concern me as they are in the ballpark range for NYU. The admissions staff claims there is no set formula, but we all know how important GPA is.

With everything else working in my favor, how badly does the GPA dilute the possibility of acceptance? Also, do you think applying ED would make up for any lost ground? I really want to get into NYU!

Thanks

Anyone have any ideas?

I think you MUST do ED, I'd say a 40% chance, your GPA being the thorn in your side. IF not, don't sweat it I think BU RD will come through and the schools have many similarities.

Thanks for the advice. I havent been able to take any SAT2s yet, but I guess I should. I know BU requires them, and schools like to see them- I've just been so socked in with other things...

Dont pay attention to the counselor-o-matic -__- It is WAY off. In order to be accepted by a school you should not have the average score, you should have the above average score! So NYU, lets say the sat range of subject X is 630-700, you should have scores not at 630 but closer to the 700 area.

GPA is very important to NYU (like other colleges of course). Many NYU students have said that their grades (GPA & SAT) were the strongest aspects of their apps. But I mean if you have ECs thats great too cause they do like diversity.

Thanks for the input. Anyone else?

I think that you have a slight chance, but I highly recommend other saftey schools. Your SATs and GPA are slightly lower than applicants who their typically accept, so unless they can see your heart and soul on the application and you apply EA, I think that you should look at other places, but I still think you have a chance. Try Suny Bimington, Albany, Villanova, Hosftra, CW Post...
