Creating a Scholarship Resume

I am trying to create a general resume to use for college applications. I recently moved to another state before my junior year and don’t know weather to include the activities and information about the first school I attended. I’ve done volunteer work in several places and have a long list of activities and some certifications. I don’t want the resume to be too long, but I still want to show case myself adequately. Should I only include the activities I’ve participated in during my junior and senior year?

Mine is like three pages.

Huh, thanks!

My school college counselors have told us to try to get our resumes down to one page (if possible). The admissions officers are probably going through thousands of application, and it’s best if you keep your resume concise and to the point.

With that being said, you can definitely include your activities from your old school! However you’re formatting your resume, make sure that the activities that are most meaningful to you are at the top. For example, if you have been playing an instrument from a young age, practice regularly, etc. you should list that above some random club you joined junior year. I think that once you take the time to actually think about what activities have been most meaningful to you, it will be easier to edit your resume. You don’t need to include every single thing that you have done in high school, just include the most important activities to YOU- that way you can show colleges what you are passionate about. I think that would definitely be more impressive than a multi-page laundry list of random clubs.

Good luck!
