Writing High School Resume for College Applications?

How do I go about writing a resume for college applications? I’m applying for two scholarships, and they want an activities/community service resume highlighting leadership. The one school asks for one page. The other doesn’t specify. Any information would be helpful because I’m a first-Gen, and know nothing about this. I also can’t find much info on it.

So the questions I have are: Should I create my own original resume or use a generator? What should I put on this application (like how should I describe my activities)? Is there anything else I should put on it?

Also, does anyone have an example of an high school activities resume for college/scholarship applications?

You can make up your own format, that is appropriate to what you want to list.

Write a list of your activities and at each entry write a description of what you did, when, where, with whom, how funded etc… If there are categories, title the sections.

Yes, I have made a resume before. I just want to know what I should/shouldn’t add. Like what kind of things should I list. For instance, I did cheer, but what things should I list about it? Also, I have more activities than one page, so I don’t know what to do about that aspect as well.

Do you know anywhere I can get a visual example of a college app resume? I know what resume looks like, but I just want to make sure I’m on the right path

It doesn’t have to be much different than a regular resume. Just have your headings be what they are asking for: Leadership, Community Service, etc. Put those at the top and put traditional headings like Education, Work Experience, etc near the bottom. If you have a regular academic resume, you can probably just rearrange it. Resumes should always be 1 page only. Under each activity, list the dates you were involved and then any relevant leadership roles. A small description of the activity and/or what you did in your role is all that is needed to conserve space. If you get frustrated trimming it down to 1 page, use a smaller font. Don’t worry too much - it sounds like you have a lot to include and will be a great scholarship candidate.

For Cheerleading, you can just list that with the dates involved and if you were Team Captain. Most people reading it will know what a cheerleader is but if you want to put a description you could add “Team building skills and responsible for spreading school spirit”

PM’ing you

At the risk of being too obvious if you Google “resume for college applications” a number of examples and guidelines will come right up.

What should I put for an objective? I have so many activities and community service that I’m not sure if it will fit one page. I’m worried about this because I don’t want my resume to screw over my chances of getting a scholarship.

I looked it up, but it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. I want some insight from other people because I don’t want to mess this up
