Creative writing, music, and much more.

I have heard princeton's creative writing program is top-notch, one of the best in the country. and i have also heard the same for their music performance degree...is this all true information? the info i heard was all hear-say, so i'm not sure if it's completely true :-\ Also, I was wondering if you are a musically inclined person with many extracurric's that pertain to music and such, does Princeton like that a lot? (plus, would taking AP music theory over the summer somewhat count as an Xtra curric?)

Thank you it looks quite interesting !

Correct me if I'm mistaken but I don't think Princeton has a music performance degree, only composition. Anyone?

I believe it has a certificate in musical performance.

ooh! that's also what i was curious about...when princeton gives a "Certificate" for music performance, what is that supposed to mean? is it like a major certificate or what? i'm confused...is it the same as majoring?

There is no certificate for composition. Only performance, which is sad because Princeton has an entire composition sequence that could easily lead to a certificate...

In any case, a certificate is more or less equal to a minor. However, many certificates require that you do independent work within their particular field of study, so some of them (such as visual arts) can end up being as much work as a major without the title.

so, like, music performance may be considered a minor? but probably not? B/c I'm looking around for a good music/creative writing school, and i know princeton is superb academic wise...but idk i'm really frustrated w/the ivies b/c it seems like they all have music composition majors for "music"...not that i don't like it, but why can't they have like music performance...even as a minor (unless certificate = minor).

Music performance is a certificate. Music composition is not, though composition classes are prerequisites for joining the department (or the certificate program). You could major in something and get certificates in both creative writing and music performance, pending acceptance in both (several certificate programs are by admissions, not simply by declaring that you want a certificate in the area).
