I'm interested in majoring in creative writing, and am looking at Columbia, Brown, Northwestern, UPenn, and Michigan as a safety.
Columbia is tops right now because of New York, but i want to get other opinions.
Would anyone with experience in these programs or schools share their thoughts, likes, and dislikes?
Thanks!

I’m curious to know why the best creative writing programs aren’t listed here.

do you mean in general on this website, or why did I not list them?

Do you need the option to major in CW, or do strong programs suffice? Kenyon, Johns Hopkins, and Princeton all have strong non-major programs. I’ve also heard good things about NYU and small LACs in general, since you’ll get more attention from professors. You might also want to look at the UNC-Chapel Hill Thomas Wolfe Scholarship.

For UMich, are you in-state? Otherwise it couldn’t wisely be considered a safety.

It’s about time I found someone who wants to major in creative writing at Columbia. I like Columbia mostly cause it’s in New York. About NYU though, they have a great Tisch school of the arts but I hear that there isn’t really a community vibe. :)
