I just noticed that in order to get credit for AP Calculus BC (towards Math 31A), you had to have gotten a 5. I received a 4 on the exam - I'm assuming that only gives elective credits and doesn't fulfill the requirement?
I took Calc III at a community college and the credit transfers over for MATH 32A & MATH 32B (but I was thinking of retaking that class anyway). Does anyone know if that counts for any lower level classes, i.e. Math 31A/31B?

I guess my question is whether or not I'll have to take Math 31A and Math 31B.
(I'm also an engineering major, so I'm required to take Math 31A, 31B, 32A, 32B, 33A, and 33B.)

Also, if nothing else works:
Does anyone know a way to place out of 31A? I could take a Calc II class over the summer (I was earlier contemplating taking a Calc I class over the summer and starting with Calc II, but I'm now trying to graduate a quarter earlier). Any advice at all would be appreciated! I think I'm putting undue stress over all of this...

I was in the same situation my freshman year. The orientation councelors do not do a good job of setting you up for this. You will have credits for 32A and 32B; however, you will not be able to retake 32B IF you decide to take the credit for 32A and 32B. I am pretty sure about this; however, it is best to call the undergraduate math department. As for the question of 31A/B only the undergraduate math department will be able to answer your question. And yes, if you take a Calc II class over the summer (that translates to 31A/B) you wont have to take 31A/B. BE AWARE THAT YOU WILL NEED THESE CREDITS ON YOUR DPR CONFIRMED BEFORE YOU CAN TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH THOSE AS PRE-REQUISITES. MAKE SURE TO CONTACT THE UNDERGRAD MATH DEP. BEFORE YOU HAVE TO SIGN UP FOR SAID CLASSES.

Thanks. I contacted the undergrad math dept and they directed me to the New Student Orientation Office, so hopefully I’ll be able to sort things out.
