Has anyone who has transferred into A&M had any experience with departments approving certain courses to transfer into your degree plan that is not listed by TCCNS?

I'm sorry if that sounds confusing. But, answer # 302 says that "If a course does not have a direct equivalent at Texas A&M University, it may transfer by title meaning it is transferable but will require departmental approval to be used in the student's degree plan once the student is admitted. Students attending school in another state will have to call or email admissions counseling for help determining which of their course work might transfer."

Because of this, I have hopes that my classes will transfer, and that I will graduate in 3 years at A&M. I'm hoping that most of my lower devision courses transfer to A&M, so I'll spend 3 years there as a transfer student. Anyone had any experience with this, or know of anyone who has done this? I think that my Gen Chem I class is very similar to A&M's Fund of Chem I since I've helped my sister who goes to A&M. Also, I've read descriptions for both courses, and other courses that I hope will transfer, and they sound so very, very similar, though, TCCNS doesn't list that they will transfer.

I really, really want to attend A&M and enter the Biomedical Engineering department. But this credit transfer thing is really saddening me since I don't want to spend more than 5 years as an undergrad.

EDIT: I emailed someone from Student Prospective Center, but I wanted to know if anyone had any experience with this directly.

Hi!
I attended another school during the summer and took an organic chem class that didn't really fit into the course list. I submitted a transcript, they listed it under the basically "I don't know where to put this" category, and I went in and talked to a counselor about it. All she needed to do was fill out a form that cross-listed it with a course already in the catalog, and it was placed. It worked out fine for me, and it wasn't that much trouble. If there isn't an equivalent, they can list it as a 489 Special Topics class. I wouldn't let that stop you from transferring- the staff I have worked with have been very helpful and competent. Does that help at all?

Argh, I can't edit, but I wanted to ask you a question.

So did you talk to a counselor before or during the semester to which you applied for? Also, were you able to transfer directly to your first choice?

Mmm hmm, I was able to transfer it to what I wanted. What do you mean when you say "applied?" I asked about the possibility of taking summer classes at the university before I went (in the Spring), but didn't ask about the specific course number. Then when I got back (in the Fall) and the summer grades were posted, I sent in the transcript, talked to the counselor, and got it renumbered. It was fixed online within a couple of days.
I hadn't thought about this before, but I've actually gone through this several times. I took a CLEP in the summer that needed to be categorized differently and some other stuff. So far, it's always been sorted out very simply. Good luck! :-)
