I've been reading that this is not a good major for someone wanting to attend law school but I have always been interested in it and not sure if I should major in this if it wont help me out with preperation for L school. Any thoughts?

If your reason for wanting to major in it is to prepare for law school, then that is a bad reason.

No that’s not it. I have always been interested in criminal justice even b4 law school. other majors i am considering are political science and psychology.

so what is the point of criminal justice ?

what is the point of any UG degreee if ur just going to law school? I come from a long line of cops in the family and its somtin I have a passion for and feel i could get great grades in.

i suppose you have a point lol, but you know some degrees compliment a JD well

but i meant like what can you do with a degree in CJ, without goin to Law school? be a paralegal right?

I used to be interested in Criminal Justice, then i found out you could major in anything

Criminal justice is a major which is usually meant for future police officers. Law schools want to see classic liberal arts majors. PoliSci and Psych are both fine.

Ok but my point is. What if I do great with GPA but totally bomb the LSAT. I could fall back on a criminal justice major. What jobs could I get with a poli Sci or Psych degree?

It depends on where you go to school. If you’re at a top-tier institution, then the plum jobs don’t care what your major is. Otherwise, you’re right, that’s the tradeoff: law schools will like you less, but other jobs will like you more.

But actually here with the Criminal Justice degree there is no tradeoff. There are just as many cops, if not more, with degrees in other things than criminal justice. In fact criminal justice is being weeded out by many educational institutions. Any job you can get with a criminal justice degree you can get just as easily with political science or psychology. Likewise, political science and psychology may open up some doors that criminal justice would not, such as counseling, education, other graduate programs, etc. And since political science and psychology will do a better service for you in law school applications, it would be advisable to major in one of those two majors.

^ I defer to Patriot here.

Thanks for the help. I will take some Psych and Poli Sci classes at my juco and see what I find more interesting.
