If you have a criminal record such as Misdemeanor A for theft that u received when u were a freshman or sophmore in college.. or something like that, will medical schools see that? Are students able to get those types of things completely off their record? What is the consent on this?

I believe all medical schools are doing background checks on people that are matriculating. Mine is even charging students for the cost.

However, I don't know what that all entails, what they see, what they don't see or how to get anything off your record. Misdemeanors obviously not as severe as felonies, but certain misdemeanors are obviously less severe than other misdemeanors.

The one anecdotal experience I have is with a friend who is year behind me. He (we) got a Urinating in Public citation during the summer, and it occurred after he had paid/revealed/signed up for his background check, but before the school had gotten the results. It showed up when they got the results, and he had to talk to the dean about the reasons for his non-disclosure. Luckily our Dean of Student Affairs is an awesome guy and once the timing issue was cleared up, everything was fine.

You will also need to disclose your record on medical licensure applications. (Misdemeanor traffic violations need not be disclosed).
