I am currently attending a university's biomedical science program, however, i did a stupid prank earlier this year. It caused me to get into trouble with law and getting a false reporting to authorities misdemeanor charge. Will this prevent me from getting into medical school. And if i am allowed in med school, will it prevent me from getting registered by the state board when i get my MD license? I know it is only a misdemeanor, but i am just concerned.

I imagine that if it doesn’t stop you from getting into medical school it won’t have much of an impact down the line. It’s not a guaranteed “no” but it’s definitely going to be a factor.

How old are you? If you’re still a freshman in college, I would imagine med school adcoms could more easily forgive one youthful indiscretion. However, if you are older, they may well think your “prank” is a red flag.

I know a former law enforcement officer who was caught stealing from an ice cream truck when he was in high school. He had to reveal this on his law school applications and when he applied for government work and a federal law enforcement position, but it never presented a barrier for his educational or career advancement. It’s always been an embarrassment to him, but that’s the extent of it.
