Yes, I am a freshman there and really enjoy it. You should take a hard look at it. If you have any questions, I'm willing to answer them.

so its people like you that make college harder for everyone to get into... because you take up all the spots

alright GW - i'll get that private chat thing fixed sometime and take you up on that!

i went into this admissions process ambitious to rob others of their rightful spots! muahaha...lol

Would notifying Emory that I want to switch to the ED II review improve my chances? I really like Emory and think I would be happy there :)

ok... here we go... I'm splitting them up into categories

Okay. So you're a white female applying to 19 schools. Here's your reality: You SHOULD get into all your safeties and matches, and probably one or two of your match/reaches depending on how your essays and applications are. If you're lucky one of those reaches will admit you. I wouldn't count on the big or super reaches knocking at your door though.

You would have had a great shot as Wash U ED.

i turned my private chat block off GW. I don't know how to initiate a chat with you, but I do have some questions about the college, so if you could invite me to the chat, that'd be cool. thanks!

out of curiosity, i have a question yalebound - did you apply EA to Yale and get in?? If so, congrats!

thanks prospy - i put alot of energy into my essays so hopefully that'll pay off

Early Decision II???

Some of the colleges I applied to offer ED II. I have picked the schools on my list because I think I will be happy at all of them and they all provide great resources to develop my interests.

So of the following, which three do you guys think I would have the greated chance to get into? Or does applying early hurt my chances if I am not the type of candidate they want to ensure attends their school, thus moving me to the denied pile if deferrals are not offered. There is no overbooking in ED so I personally think if they are on the fence they are less likely to admit because there is no cushion.

** I realize the ED II deadline has passed. But hopefully the person on the other end of the phone will be understanding and allow me to switch into the ED II applicant pool.

Emory
Wash U
Weslesyan
Middlebury
Pomona
Vanderbilt

I also applied to William and Mary and Hamilton RD but forgot to put them on my original list. Any comments?

University of Pittsburgh (Safety) - Safety
UMass Amherst (other Safety) - Safety

Boston Unversity - Match/Safety
George Washington - Match/Safety
Richmond University - no idea
Emory - Match/Reach
U Michigan Ann Arbor - Match
Vanderbilt - Match

NYU - Match (if not stern)
Northwestern - Reach
Vassar - Reach
CMU - Match/Reach
Middlebury - Reach
Amherst - Big Reach
Williams - Big Reach
Wesleyan - Reach
Wash U - Reach
Pomona - Big Reach

Cornell - Reach
Yale - Massive Reach
UPenn - Big Reach

If you can present yourself and your interests well and stress one of your more unique ECs, then you have a chance at any of the schools you mentioned. You're bound to get into at least one of your reaches, I would think.

Anyway, that's just what I think, so take it with a grain of salt.

No problem, Diet Coke.

If you're considering your EDII options, in your case it'll help your chances. If you DO end up applying somewhere, call the office, and say that it took you too long to consider committing to anything, but you finally realized that you LOVE [fill in the blank with name of college to which you apply EDII] and that you would want to spend your next four years there.

If you're thinking about chances, the six EDII schools are all reaches (to varying degrees). I would not count on Pomona at all, or Middlebury, for admission. But I don't think you should apply ED to school that is not your first choice. So if Pomona happens to be, you might as well apply EDII. If it's not, consider your other options.

If you're from the South, you might want to apply to Wesleyan. If you're from the North, Emory and Vanderbilt will open up to you a little more. Wesleyan is realistic for you, even if you're from the North. If you really like Wash U, though, apply there EDII.

One last thing: If you feel really good about your upcoming retake of the SAT, rush your score to the schools you apply to; it might help a little bit.

why'd you apply to all these schools? you actually liked each one?

I'm from Pennsylvania by the way.

Here's my final list and order of possible ED II's

Middlebury

Wesleyan

Emory

I think I'm being too cavalier about this whole ED committal thing, but honestly, I did all the research and I really think I'll be fine and happy at all of them.

Out of those colleges who offer ED II, I've picked these ones and ordered them as such because let's face it, even when schools offer similiar programs, some just complement your personality more than others.

I also have to be pragmatic about things. While Middlebury would be a great school, if my chances are extremely bleak there, I'd rather increase my odds at Wesleyan or Emory instead of risking loosing a spot at those two on a RD application.

I really shouldn't be debating these options at this point in time, but I don't want to miss out on a great school because I settle for RD across the board. So if you have any futher advice, Prospy or anyone else, it'd be cool to hear. Feel free to just rate my chances at the three school I posted in the top of this reply. (Middlebury Wesleyan and Emory).

Secondly, just how are my chances RD at these three? Just how much do I risk by not doing ED II at them?

** I also sent in my art slides to all three of these schools. :)

Thanks sooo much!

** prospy- out of curiosity, where are you applying??

yea i like them all pretty much.

Except Pitt. And I'm pretty indifferent Hamilton College, a school I forgot to put on my original list.

lol you'd throw in an ED application after wasting money and, more importantly, time on 21 on others?

Great choices, by the way.

I visited Middlebury and really liked it. It is pretty reachy for you though, I think - even ED. It's sort of a crapshoot. You might be able to pull it off anyway. A girl from my school last year (I go to a public school on Long Island - one of the most difficult places to apply from) who was barely in the top 10% with a 1400 got into Middlebury RD. Another girl the year before got in RD, not top 10%, 1300's. Honestly, flip a coin - and there are your chances. ED would definitely boost, because they loose a lot to ivies and want to see interested applicants. Same with Wesleyan - it's a bit less competitive than Middlebury (and competitive in different ways). I think Middlebury doesn't even ask for the SAT anymore (you should send it anyway). Emory is just as competitive as Wesleyan, but your geography might help (a little bit).

Anyway, if your preferences aren't distinct, I'd suggest picking one (none of your ED choices are out of your range). If you're going to call the admissions office, you might also want to send a letter to them first, stating why you want to apply ED. That way, if the school allows you to change from RD to ED over the phone, then the admissions counselor who reviews your application will not be suspicious of the seemingly hasty switch. And if they do NOT allow you (hopefully this won't happen) to switch from RD to ED, then the counselor will still have a copy of a letter showing how interested you really are and how you would have applied ED if they had let you at that time. Just a suggestion.

Oh, and I just read about the art slides - Wesleyan would be great for you. When I visited, it seemed to have one of the strongest art departments I had seen.

As for me, I applied EDI to Vassar and will be going there next fall :).

they lose*
