I realize that being a transfer applicant during my freshman year that my high school grades will need to be supplied in transcript form. But, since I'll only be in town until Sunday morning, I need to have everything taken care of by tomorrow afternoon. So I have a few questions:

-- Can I order one copy of the official transcrip, photocopy it myself, and enclose it with the rest of my application?

-- Does it have to be sent by my HS, or can I send it?

-- Is it a problem if they get sent out now, but my transfer applications don't come for several more weeks, since the deadline is still quite a bit away?

-- Can I have my parents order and send out these transcripts without me, since I'm 18, but will no longer be here in a matter of days?

In other words, how do I handle the HS transcript bit?

1) No. Colleges won't accept a photocopy from you; it would be too easy for you to have altered it.
2) It has to be sent by your HS.
3) Not a problem.
4) Unsure.

The easiest way to know how to handle it is to call your high school guidance department and ask. They may accept a faxed request; they may require a signed letter and a check to cover the mailing and administrative costs; they may accept a phone call; they may ask that you mail them stamped envelopes addressed to your school. Every school does things differently; there's no one way to answer your question.

Thanks Chedva. Once my mom gets back with the car, I think I'll go over there and talk to them to see what is required and so forth. I know each trancript costs money, I think about $5, but it is the other information, particularly about parental releasing, that is probably most critical.

I had to pay $2 a school, and they are supposed to be sent out Monday afternoon, which is realistically sooner than I'll be sending in my app. So this should be resolved. The problem will come if one of the schools doesn't get it, or loses it. But I'll worry about that if/when the time comes.

For transfer students, some schools would rather you gather all your transcripts (high school and college) and send them in a big envelope yourself. Just make sure they are sealed.

Have never encountered any schools that prefer ^^^^ method.

gprime, I recommend keeping a spreadsheet for all the schools listing each element of the app (fee, app/CommonApp, supplement, scores, hs transcript, college transcript, recs....). Note the date you/someone sent each. You can then track receipt - some of the schools will have online tracking, some you may choose to follow up by phone.
