Critique Essay/Revise

Early on the dawn of Sundays, I arrive at my Catholic cathedral, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. I meet my group of fellow volunteers, which consist of the usual older adults who take much pride in their community and want the best for it. We have the typical conversations about the week, life, football, etc. We then set up the church with tables, lecterns, chairs, and flyers for upcoming events for the community. I then enter the scullery where the church has a community breakfast. I make sure that everything is set, the mixes are all ready, and that the food is cooking on the grille. We clean up after people finished their breakfasts. All of the tables have to be cleared off, mugs and the tablecloth have to be cleared off as well, and everything has to be put back where it belonged. We gather all the dishes and spend maybe an hour washing and putting them back in their proper storage. We then fold up all the chairs and tables and put them back into the storage closet. We have to be precise and make sure that everything is prepared because the parishioners that attended the church enjoyed the morning breakfast with their church. All the donations that we end up with after the pancake breakfast go to the church or other charities. After everything is set up we head out of the scullery and go up to the mass to gather, listen and supplicate. The volunteers get out of the service a little early so we can state serving the food.

<pre><code>The reasons I enjoy volunteering have to do with feeling good inside and seeing everybody’s happy faces after church. I know a vast majority of people in the community and they smile and talk to me while I am working. Another main thing that’s great about volunteering at a church is the fact that I am working, in a way, for God. No matter how tedious a task may ever seem, it is always rewarding to think that I work for a place where God is worshipped.

Community service has helped me in building character. Doing such small tasks in groups can help out communities greatly, which, in turn, has given me an urge to help people whenever possible. Community service is an experience that I will never forget and never stop doing. I plan, also, to extend my skills learned from community service, into college, and after college, career. Community service has taught me leadership, work ethic, discipline, and team work, all of which are essential in life. I intend to use these skills in college to thrive and learn new things, as I continue my community service and help others and help make the world a better place.
