<p>Community and Service Report</p>
<pre><code>I have participated in a wide variety of community service activities this year. One of my favorite volunteering sites was the House of Charity, which is located in downtown Minneapolis. At this site, I passed out food to homeless people from the downtown Minneapolis area. I chose House of Charity because I like the idea of directly serving those in need. I’ve spent about five hours working at House of Charity. A couple of other notable volunteer sites I attended include Camp Heartland, which is located just outside the metro area, and the Shalom Home, located in St. Louis Park. Camp Heartland is a summer camp for children and teens who have contracted HIV or AIDS. I spent about four hours there. I also spent four hours at the Shalom Home, which is a nursing home for Jewish seniors.
Many charity organizations continue to thrive due to the efforts of volunteers who generously donate their time. Without these organizations, many deprived people’s needs would not be met. When I volunteer, I feel like I’m part of a greater cause. Throughout the year, I’ve learned that working hard for the disadvantaged among us can be very rewarding. Much of the volunteer work I completed was similar to ‘assembly line work’, so I can’t say I’ve learned many new skills. However, I have learned patience and understanding.
It’s our responsibility as young people to help those in need. I will continue to donate my time to community service organizations, and I hope that future generations will do the same. The betterment of society depends in part on collective volunteering efforts, so I believe that community service is very important.
