Crown Life?!

Anyway...
How's the overall community? I've heard from some people that Crown has lots of friendly and outgoing people who are mostly interested in computers, science, video games, etc. Things that I'm into. xd
Then again I've also heard that Crown was an "anti-social dungeon" with people who are overly obsessed with certain things that they apparently seem like they're "creepers".

I mean, I'm not really a party-er and I've sworn off drinking/drugs so I'm not your typical social college student but I don't think I'd enjoy a completely cold and anti-social community.
I love having friends and meeting new people. :P

How's the dorm rooms and stuff? I've heard the dorm rooms are ridiculously small, old, run down, and that the bathrooms are disgusting. Obv that scares the hell out of me. I don't want to have to wear a rubber suit every time I bathe!

The dining hall, I've heard it served terrible food and closes really early? :S

How true is the drug stereotype? Obvious question!

And lastly, how bad is that damned hill? LOL

Hoping for some current Crown residents to prove/disprove and clarify some of these questions!

There’s both. You mostly see the outgoing people, who are by far the majority. I know of some “creepers”, but there’s a reason you don’t see them much. The anti-social people stay locked up, so they’re not worth worrying about. XP

People socialize, but in a different way. Usually involving nerf guns. Or video games. Or Magic the Gathering. Or Dungeons and Dragons. If they’re part of the nerd set anyhow. …Hate to say this, but I don’t really know how “normal” people hang out around here, because I’m not in that group.

The dorms rooms were small THIS YEAR because we had too many students, so many double-sized rooms were converted to small triples. My RAs informed me that those will be gone gone gone next year, hooray! Only run-down part about the dorms is squeaky spots in the floors. The showers can be bad at times, definitely. Just wear flip-flops when you shower. But this applies to just about anywhere, it’s a matter of too many people and not enough cleaning staff.

Crown/Merrill dining serves terrible food!? No way! I’ve actually heard from my friends that live at other colleges that our dining halls serves the best. There is rarely a meal where I feel like there isn’t something good to eat. Even on those days there are plenty of fall-backs, Banana Joe’s has a spot in the dining hall where they ALWAYS serve pizza, plus there’s a nice sandwich and salad bar.

The dining hall schedules change every year. Last year Crown/Merrill was open until midnight every day for east campus, this year it’s 9/10 instead that’s open until 11pm for east campus. Similarly 8/Oakes is open late on the west side. Who knows what it will be next year.

The hill hurts for the first two weeks, and then you get calves of steel, and will not break a sweat climbing it.

Ah, I see. I might seem anti-social myself, but I’m really just sorta shy and waaaaayy too quiet, haha.

Nerf guns and video games are totally my style, hahaha. I’m not really very “normal” either, I decided I’m pretty nerdy actually.
I actually asked someone I knew who was going there and she said they had 2 AM pokemon battles so that’s pretty rad. 8D

Totally comforting to hear that about the rooms too. I feel like I’d be sorta nervous in even a double, let alone a small triple!! As for the showers, flip-flops are go. xD

I’m pretty chubby, actually, so I’d think the hill would be great exercise for me hahaha.
Thanks btw.
I’m even more excited to go now! xD

Are the girls nerdy like the guys? Are there Hispanics in Crown? And lastly are the girls attractive?

Do attractive and nerdy usually go in the same sentence?

@YOUNGMAFIAxt: Yes, some of us certainly are. :] There are Hispanics in Crown, my building has a decent population of such. And I can’t tell you if the girls are attractive, I don’t know what your tastes are!

@Pscholler: You can shut up, thanks.

Got me good.

@Pscholler
I thought we left that generalization crap back in high school?

@Psycholler ; Attractiveness is subjective. I’m sorry, not every girl is built like America’s Next Top Model, and God forbid people find nerdy attractive!

I, for one, think nerdy girls -can- be attractive and at the same time I’m not attracted at all to the typical “bleach blond party girl.” As you said in the other thread “People have different priorities, Don’t hate.”

Take a lesson from what you say? :P

You read it out of context brah, we were talking about attractive women at the school, which was the “priority”. The other dude was saying why would you even care…

Generalization crap??? I don’t understand how me saying attractiveness and nerdy usually don’t go in the same sentence is so “wrong”. The word “usually” doesn’t mean always. But stereotypically this is true of women and dudes.

Did I once say that nerdy girls aren’t attractive also? I just said the two words, attractive and nerdy, “usually” don’t go together.

I have nothing against people who find nerdy people attractive.

Brah.

You came off sounding condescending and then extremely sarcastic.
Not really a fan of using on stereotypes to decide a person’s social status.

You didn’t exactly say that being nerdy was unattractive, but saying “Do attractive and nerdy usually go in the same sentence?” is basically saying that people who are nerdy are -usually- unattractive.
I’m pretty nerdy and I’m not exactly the hottest guy in the world so I’m kinda offended at things like that. :stuck_out_tongue:
It’s not really a person’s fault if he/she is ugly or nerdy.

I’m aware I took it out of context, but it sorta fit the point I was trying to prove.
People have different tastes so what you think is unattractive might attractive to someone else.

Meh, I do feel as if I overreacted that bit.
:|

Mila munis and olivia munn … Biggest video game nerds. Gorgeous. :)

I think you meant Mila Kunis. The thing is I wouldn’t perceive them as nerdy. Mila is an attractive actress( unless you think of her as Meg haha). Olivia Munn is an attractive host, who is also becoming an actress. You can like video games and still not be nerdy.
I would say nerdism (that a word?) has developed almost into a subculture.

Where do you draw the line between simply “liking” nerdy stuff and being a flat out nerd?

And to be honest, I don’t see anything wrong with /being/ a nerd. Unless…you’re literally like an anti-social basement crawler or some **** like that.

Anyway, besides that. You could /not/ be a nerd and still be unattractive. Being a nerd has nothing to do with how attractive/unattractive a person is.

I suppose

although I am just so confused :o

I got into Crown, but I wasn’t really looking forward to the whole video-gamer status dorm. Is that the main stereotype at Crown?

Main stereotype and partial truth. There are a lot of gamers here. But we’re not the majority.

I did mean kunis. Stupid itouch corrects me.
