Yes, it is happening. Potential future Crownies, next year, Harvey house is going to be the new video game themed house. The school has promised video game tournaments, trips to game conferences, and all sorts of goodies for people living in that house.

For those interested in living there, make sure you put Crown at the top of your housing list. And you can request to change colleges if they give you something else. I know two people who were originally placed in Merrill, but requested to move to Crown and got in. After you know what college you're living in you'll get to mark your preferences regarding theme.

On another note, next year there are going to be no more small triples! So no worries about getting squished into a small room. :)

I can have pride for my college without backing a stereotype that makes everyone outside of Crown think we are all awkward nerds who never see sunlight except when we go to class or out onto the grass to role play.

I haven’t met anyone who actually holds Crownies to that stereotype. When I tell people I’m from Crown I just get asked about cardiac hill, haha.

A gaming-themed house does sound awesome, but Crown seems to carry too many negative stereotypes. Not to mention, you can only live for so long on 4-hour Battlefield sessions and cheap ramen…

Update about the gaming house. It’s meant for people in the CS: GD program, mostly. So we can have more people to collaborate with. People in CS, Creative Writing, Electronic Music, Film & Digital Media, and Digital Arts get second priority.

@derptaco: They’re * stereotypes* for a reason. They’re generalizations based on the most extreme cases, that don’t hold true for most residents here. The only person in my building who plays video games all the time is my WoW-addicted roommate. There are a lot of people here because it’s more quiet and academically focused than other colleges, plus we have the ACE program that gives extra help for people taking chemistry and calculus.

And what’s this about cheap ramen? Banana Joe’s sells soooo much good food.

I’m majoring in CS:GD and my choices were 10,9,8,cowell,and merrill.

Should I transfer to Crown? I like the fact that if I get into 10 or 9, I’ll be closer the JBSE building but then I rather be around “my people” (fellow gamers).

Isn’t there a gaming scene at 10 and 9 because its so close to JBSE?

I can’t make up my mind!?!?!?!
What do you guys think? Try to Transfer or stay at whatever college?
(if i don’t get into 10 or 9, You already know I’ll be trying for Crown)

There’s a small gaming scene at 9/10, as there is at all colleges. The walking difference between 9/10 and Crown going to JBE is 3-5 minutes. That’s really not worth going into a college you won’t enjoy as much.

You can either request to transfer to Crown after the school mails you a response, or you can wait until the school year and see how you like things at 9/10. And if you think you’d rather be at Crown, you can transfer in the middle of the year.

Turns out I got into College 9 so I’m happy about that but I rather go to Crown now. lol
I wish I would have known about the gaming thing before but oh well.

At least I know I could go to 9 if I wanted.

I’m gonna email housing and see what to do. lol
