Crunch Time

anon,

Try taking 20 units, organizing activites/events at my CC, and working part time. I do everything last minute now days, but that doesn’t mean the quality of my work suffers.

I’m no where near finished with my essays, but they will be top notch by Sunday.

i’m literally just starting my statements too lol. i’m gonna spend all weekend on mine starting now. all day, everyday till sunday night. yay

ecullen, I was in a less rigorous situation as you but my workload was heavy. I wrote my essays the summer before I applied and the whole process was completely low stress.

Writing the most important essays of your life 5 days before they are due will lead to a less effective essay than if you had started a month ago. 5 days is not enough time for you to go through several drafts and have them proofread by people. I started my essay before I even began the fall semester 08 and I went through more than 4 drafts. From them, I was able to construct the most powerful and articulate essays that I could.

5 days is enough to get an A on a 10th grade English paper, not a college admissions essay.

But if you’re the type that can bust out the best essay in one sitting and don’t need to look it over 10000 times before you submit…I don’t see anything wrong w/ that.

I wrote mine over the summer as a matter of fact. I’ve just rewritten it so much that Im still struggling with it. The fact that it is one of the most important essays I will ever write doesn’t help alleviate any of the stress.

finally got my first drafts done! and i should be editing them right now…

wrote my essays 2 days before the deadline. got in everywhere. that’s not me trying to brag, it’s to let you guys know that you can relax a little. Do your very best of course but don’t start pulling your hair out thinking that if they come across one run on sentence they will just throw your app away.

/but if you know your not the strongest writer don’t take that to mean you shouldn’t seek a little advice ect.

@CBBolts thanks. that is definately reassuring. its already 2am and im still doing my personal statement. this essay can’t possibly be worth the stress its causing me. haha

the essay is only important for boarder line students. Why are you all worrying when you have top notch stats? These essays can make or break a low GPA, and some other blemish on your record, but if it’s flawless then the essay means much less since you will get in either way. Trust me they don’t base admission on a freaking personal essay, they base it on your academic record. However, a solid personal essay can get in some joker with a 2.9 or a 3.1. So if you have a low GPA you should have been working on it for the last six months. A high GPA, don’t forget, will not erase a pathetic personal essay. As long is it’s not really bad, no reason it should be that bad, then you will get in.

“However, a solid personal essay can get in some joker with a 2.9 or a 3.1. So if you have a low GPA you should have been working on it for the last six months.”

vintij,

I’ve witness you make ridiculous assumptions all over this board, but this statement here is the last straw. Some joker, huh? I had some severe personal experiences during my first two years of CC that hindered me from passing any of my classes, and because of that my overall GPA is 3.1. Without the two F’s I would have a 3.4, which is respectable. I think it’s completely irrational to judge random people you don’t know for having a low GPA or whatever it might be. People have different experiences that have led them to do what they are doing, and it is be juvenile to assume otherwise.

im hella doing this last minute too. O_O If i write about getting rescinded from UCLA bc of a <3.0 12th grade GPA and applying as a TAP certified junior transfer after 1 year, would it be more likely to benefit or hurt my chances!? I have a lot to say about improving my work ethic and all that, but im scared they might change their mind if they find out i got kicked out once!

yea, no reason to stress out. i’m applying to haas which puts 35% of its decision on the essay portion. i just started brainstorming last night and i’m not really worried. they’re only going to spend 5-10 minutes max on our essays (if even that) so all u have to do is get ur point across.

I just submitted my application to UCLA, UCI, and UCSB. Really hoping for UCLA, though. I’m majoring in Japanese, so hopefully I’ll be OK.

wow i haven’t even started on my personal statements, ■■■

DO NOT listen to vintij. I’ve seen people with 4.0s get rejected fromm Berkeley because their essays were mediocre. Work on these essays like your life depends on it, because your acceptance definitely does.

I didn’t know I was judging anyone? Wow. My mistake. I assumed you needed a specific subject to judge, and then some form of opinion of that subject. How is “some joker” automatically referring to you? Jeez people are just desperate to feel offended aren’t they? By the way I could care less about the reason for your low GPA, but that does not change the fact that you need a good essay to make up for it. Whereas someone with a high GPA could get in with an average essay. I never said anyone could get in with a bad essay.

and…overreaction of the year goes to predicthisflick!

congratulations, now kanye west will interrupt your speech you joker

LMAO…touche, anonymousername.

haha lol :D

If it wasn’t for Kanye West I’d have no idea who Taylor Swift was. Thanks Kanye…

So glad I submitted yesterday, now I can’t worry about it anymore!
