CS 102 placement test

I see some upper level courses require CS 102 (micro computing applications) and that student can place out of this by taking a placement test.
My DS has a basic self taught knowledge of Windows/ PowerPoint/ excel - but I fear that may not be enough.
Has anyone taken this test? How hard was it? Study materials for $95 are available through the CS dept - using these, how long does it take to prepare?

I’d sure hate it if he has to take a 3 hour CS 102 course.

Have him ask his adviser for an override.
