CSE General Admission question

Hi,

I was recently accepted into Honors, but unfortunately was not given Direct Admit. I have a few questions regarding when I should apply to be in the major.

I currently have AP credits for CSE 142, and will have AP credits for Math 124, 125, and Phys 121.

Originally I was planning to take CSE 143, Math 126, Phys 122, and English in the Fall and Winter Quarter and apply for Spring Quarter admission. Reading through some threads however, some people commented on how no first year students were accepted for Spring 2015 (is this true?). I also realized that the admission committee may not see my Winter quarter grades in time.

So what should I do? Should I take CSE 142, 143, Math 126, Phys 122, in three quarters and apply for Fall Quarter admission?

Thank you,

If you are confident in calculus, I think it will be okay to go right into Math 126. And I can’t really speak for some of your other classes. I think it might be a good idea to retake CSE 142 though. If you want to be a CS major, it will probably be a good idea for you to properly learn all the “correct” styling that UW prefers. Plus, if you already took APCSA, then you should get a relatively high grade in the class. I think CSE 142 and 143 grades are the most important prerequisite ones when you apply to the major, so that should help.

@student197 Thank you for your answer! That’s what I’m deciding on right now
