CSOM and Honors

I am currently a high school senior interested in being a part of the Carlson School of Management and Honors program. I am wondering how difficult the classes are in the business school (I've heard Calc is awful. True?), and how many credits are reasonable to take. I like to challenge myself, but I want to maintain a high GPA as well, especially since I'm interested in Latin honors.
Any opinions from CSOM and/or Honors students? I'm also interested in Honors housing in Middlebrook and internship opportunities. Thanks for sharing!

Classes aren’t necessarily difficult, but it can be hard to get an ‘A’ given the curve (classes are curved to a B for lower division, B+ for upper division). Honors can help with an A- curve for select classes.

Calc isn’t all that bad, but of course part of that depends on mathematical competency. If you foresee it as a problem, just take Short Calc (counselors will tell you they are similarly difficult, but Short Calc is definitely easier).

I think you will find that a high GPA and Latin honors isn’t the most important thing in business school. Most companies just want to see your GPA above a certain level (for top level jobs, generally a 3.5-3.6+) with relevant leadership and work experience. Your effort will be much better placed in being involved in activities and gaining internship experience than in trying to ace every course. Many CSOM students actually drop honors because the time and requirements aren’t worth the benefit.

Mathematics courses and classes taken for liberal education credit are not taught through CSOM and do not follow this policy. CSOM will allow you to take short calc (Math 1142) in place of the normal calculus sequence.

The difficulty of these courses depends on your individual aptitude, preparation, and work ethic. Here is the relevant documentation for Latin honors:
