Hey! ok so I was recently admitted into the Hutton Honors Program...and I know when I visited they said that sometimes the Kelley Business Honors Program and Hutton often clash. I am a direct admit to the Kelley School and would love to do the business honors program...but do you think that it would be too hard to manage a schedule/make it more confusing for myself. I've been trying to read all about the credits and stuff but it all seems so confusing and can't really put it into context.
Any advise would help.
Thanks :D

I can’t answer (my D isn’t going into business), haven’t really researched it, hopefully someone with more info can tell you.

But…I happened to google something today that said SOMETHING LIKE most of your honors classes might qualify to satisfy the requirements of both? It was a CC thread, from 2008.

Oh, here it is, I looked back through my history. See post #5 and see if it answers any questions for you.

Congratulations.

They don’t clash (I am in both honors programs), and they actually complement each other. If you are only in the business honors program, you can only take honors business courses, whereas if you are in the hutton honors program you can take all the honors courses (with the exception of i-core).

It is a lot easier for me to fulfill my business honors requirements because I am in hutton. For the business honors program you need to take 3 honors courses (doesn’t matter if they are business or gen ed) + honors i-core. For Hutton, you only need to take their 7 honors courses if you want to graduate with general honors distinction. So I use hutton to take honors gen ed’s on top of honors business classes.

In short, it is easier to be in both than just the business honors program alone.

Taking Hutton classes as a business major will make your scheduling easier (honors classes usually meet only two days a week instead of three, like many of the non-honors I-Core prerequisites), get you much smaller classes, and help your gpa if you are applying to business honors. Also looks great on your Kelley honors application to list that you are in Hutton. Also, the Hutton honors notation requires only a 3.4 gpa at graduation. The honors notation is a nice way to distinguish yourself if you don’t go into business honors, as only about 120 graduating seniors out of at least five thousand get the notation. To get the notation, take as many as five honors classes at Kelley (with no more than two from each Kelley department) and only two S&H, A&H, or N&M (HON H203, H204, or H205) classes. Here are the honors classes my son took or will take. He did not apply for business honors, but is using his Hutton status to get into all of these high gpa classes. He’s even taking one extra class beyond the notation requirement. The Kelley honors classes are a lot more work, but the COAS honors S&H and A&H classes tend to be more interesting and grade easier than your traditional type freshman survey classes, even though both meet distribution option requirements.

I was just admitted to IUB, and I qualify for the Honors College. I worked really hard in high school, and I don’t want to spend my four years at college miserable with my course load because I took the Honors route, my main question is are Honors courses truly difficult to handle and maintain good grades in?

No no no, not at all. You’ll be just fine. Lots of honors classes are a lot easier than regular ones.

Agreed^^^^

Doesn’t your HHC paperwork tell you that most kids take only ONE honors course per semester? Do it…you WANT it on your diploma. Better for jobs. AND…there are other things that go along with being in HHC (some smaller classes, maybe even some scholarship money). Well worth it.

My daughter has taken 3 honors courses and has liked two of them (the one she did not like as much was a Kelley one and she has since changed her major) and just told me she is planning to take another one next spring. She enjoys the uniqueness of the courses and the small class size.

She got two As and a B+ in them.

Thanks! No, I haven’t received the official packet yet, they just told me I was accepted through an email
