Hey guys! I was just wondering how difficult you think it would be to pull off a business major with a premed track. I like both business and medicine, but am more inclined to medicine. Do you think the courseload is manageable? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

It’s definitely difficult, but I know someone who has it planned out into her schedule. However, she’s only finished freshman year, so things could change. It probably requires coming into the school with a high number on AP/IB credits so that everything not required is out of the way.

During the Eagle Day presentation for CSOM students, one of the kids asked this exact same question (finance major + pre-med). The presenter replied “sure, if you want to kill yourself.”

As Ortsac stated, having many cores fulfilled utilizing AP/IB credit would definitely make this goal much more feasible.

I’m thinking of an econ major withing CSOM do think it would still be impossible?

An econ concentration in CSOM requires the same amount of classes as a finance concentration, so it’s still possible, but definitely quite a challenge. However it MAY be easier to switch into A&S and do econ and pre-med there. I don’t know the econ requirements in A&S off the top of my head though. I would look them up on the BC website.

i think the csom econ concentration require less credits/courses than the econ major in A&S

Spoken like someone who prefers the CSOM workload. :D

fwiw:

all other things being equal, professional schools prefer a liberal arts degree over a ‘vocational’ degree such as biz. Thus, an Econ major in A&S would be more highly valued than an Econ concentrator in CSOM. (Don’t blame me, I’m just the messenger.)

However, to hedge your bets, stay in CSOM and take Gen Chem this year. If you do well, you should take Bio and organic as a Soph. OTOH, if you do poorly in Gen Chem, which most Frosh do, forget about premed and ace the rest of your biz courses.
