CSS, Can you edit once submitted?

I understand that you can go back and edit the FAFSA once it is submitted since one may not have all of the up to date tax info for 2012. Can the same be done for the CSS Profile?

No take a copy of the Profile and make corrections on copy once your taxes are completed.
Mail to FA office of college(s). I always use certified mail.

You cannot update the submitted CSS Profile. You have to contact the respective colleges and let them know of any changes in your CSS Profile.

You can edit your CSS Profile now, but the edited version can be sent only to the freshly added colleges.

No. You cannot edit it once submitted.

You need to login CCS Profile website and print the Acknowledgement. This will print out everything. Correct the numbers by pens and fax/email/mail to the colleges. Some colleges may require specific cover sheets. You may want to write the applicant’s name and DOB on each page.

Sorry SLUMOM, I didn’t notice your answer.

Thanks for the input.

Just so I understand, once i have submitted it to College A, any changes must be made in writing as corrections to the submitted profile. What about if I have not yet submitted to College B, can I get back into CSS profile to edit before sending?

Yes you can edit it before sending.

Thanks. However, trying to figure out why CSS won’t allow you to change after sending as FAFSA does? After all, guessing many people with slightlly more complicated tax returns (i.e. receiving K-1’s) can’t file until mid to later March so CSS must get a gob of paperwork (written corrections) they must have to deal with.

no, cant be edited.
edit the paper copy, scan, and email
or contact their office; i think you have to like send another sheet of paper with the corrections.

Really dont see point of css profile without editing feature. I did ours first week of January and a lot of info has changed now that getting tax stuff in mail.

lacrossemom, all it means is that the particular colleges must get a boatload of mail/e-mail with corrections to the CSS for folks who simply can’t file their taxes by February 1. Not being able to electronically do corrections once the profile is submitted seems to create a lot of work for the admissions departments. Guess I could be wrong about that, but not sure?

Just think it is nuts especially since there is a cost. FAFSA is wonderful in comparison with most important feature of it being free.

“Free” is a relative word, since our tax dollars are supporting yet another federal government entity.

I don’t get it either since, if there are mistakes made on it, they do have to be “edited”. They are just done by hand and sent via snail mail instead of on line.

Just a case of a private enterprise being behind a government agency in technological capability.

I would actually expect a private enterprise to be ahead technologically, but, again the College Board is supposedly a “non-profit” organization…

Just wanted to chime in, I have added a few more colleges today to the Profile that I had submitted way back in Nov for EA. It allowed me to edit numbers from my current W-2 form which is a nice feature. But still pain in the neck to do updates manually for the EA college.

Print it, scan as PDF and email away. Let the schools deal with it if they want the CSS. FASFA should have all the info they need.

^^ It’s worth checking to see if colleges want corrected printed Profiles before you assume you have to print out and handwrite in corrections. Some do. Some don’t.

Some will make the corrections themselves once you send the updated FAFSA and copies of your tax returns.
