I hope this question makes sense -
I know I can submit the FAFSA now (IF I could access the FAFSA website today - lol!) and then amend it later when I have all tax forms later in the month. Is it also a good idea to fill in the Profile with estimated numbers now, so that I can get it in early? Or do I need to wait to file that when I have solid 2013 numbers? (I do understand that I need to have it completed by Feb 1) I have looked at the form, but can't figure out whether I would be able to access it later to amend it, if I submit it to schools now?

It is easy to correct a FAFSA. You can do it on web. I have corrected FAFSA’s multiple times in a season, no trouble.

It is harder to correct a CSS Profile. You usually have to do it by hand and submit to each college.

Submit FAFSA now, and do Profile before deadline.

Thanks for the info Samurai and 4kids!
Okay, so that answers the question of whether I am ABLE to make changes… but not the question of whether it is critical to submit it as early as the FAFSA? Is it worth the hassle of changing it later? I would think that schools would not WANT to deal with paper copies, so my guess is no…

It is not as critical to submit CSS Profile this week.

the fin aid officers have their hands full with FAFSAs this month. That is critical.

Wait until you have better numbers for CSS. Just get in before deadline.
