Hi
I am an international student and most of the colleges I am applying to require a CSS profile. I am applying to 20 colleges and coming from a low income family, the fee to be paid could prove to be a hindrance ( thats why I got a Common App fee waiver as well ). I heard that internationals should email colleges individualy, asking for the CSS waiver code.
Has anyone else done the same? Can anyone share the sample of the email they wrote to colleges?
Any help will be much much appreciated.
Thanks.
I am an international student applying to about 20 colleges, too. There’s only a few schools (Whitman, Hamilton) that provide waivers for the CSS Profile. You should email the schools and ask 1) if they provide fee waiver codes or 2) accept the ISFAA in lieu of the PROFILE. Good luck!
I don’t believe the college board provides fee waivers to international students…for anything.
Some schools do, however.
You do know you will also have to pay to have your SAT or ACT scores sent to the colleges. Right?
Maybe…trim your application list if finances are a serious issue.
Many schools are winding down for the holidays. What is the deadline for submission of all materials (including the profile)?
@jym626 the deadline is jan 1st for many
Yes @ItsComingHome, that’s well known, but the turnaround time to respond to requests at this time of year may be slow due to the holidays. Waiting until a week before applications are due to ask for a fee waiver is risky, IMO.
It’s December 24. Most colleges offices are not open this week. Many are working with very limited staff over the whole holiday week.
Next Monday is New Years Eve. The offices will be closed that day…and the following day for sure.
If you have a January 1 deadline…you probably should figure out a way to pay to submit the Profile.
Did you apply ED to Kenyon? Did you submit the Profile by the early deadline for ED applicants?
If you want a lot of financial aid from these colleges…get the forms submitted on time.
And remember…you WILL have to pay to have the SAT score sent to all.
Why are you applying to so many colleges, without a confirmation of fee waivers?
If you can’t afford the fee waivers, how will you afford the other fees like the required health insurance (which isn’t covered by any sort of funding)?
How will you afford your personal expenses?
It’s too close to the due dates, for everything, since all of the schools are closed for the holidays. I just checked at my son’s school and they have janitorial and security staff only on site.
Poor planning on your part, does not necessitate an emergency on their part.
