for the CSS profile there is a list that pops out telling me that certain schools that i am applying to say that for international students it is not accepted (referring to the CSS)

I am attending an american school in Asia which is certified by all the necessary Western Associations. Is there a way I could change to "non international" ? I am a US citizen and own property in the US.

Perhaps I could change the mailing address?

If you are a U. S. citizen, you are NOT an international student applicant. You are U. S. citizen living abroad. It is said that your application for admission will be reviewed (by some colleges) with the international pool. However that does not change your citizenship status.

Where on the Profile did YOU indicate that you were an international student?

Im not sure this applies to the OP. If the schools you are choosing don’t accept the Profile for international students, maybe they don’t give aid to international students. Check their websites to see.

I am not sure of the problem you encountered on your CSS profile. My friend is an “international” student (counted as international because she has not got PR even though she has been living in the US for many years) and she applied to a dozen of colleges and submitted CSS Profile without any problems as you mentioned.

If you have questions or problems with the PROFILE, you can reach College Board at 305-829-9793 or e-mail help@cssprofile.org.

I read from a college website saying that “In the event an international student cannot complete the online CSS/Profile, they can complete the free International Student Financial Aid Application instead of completing the CSS/Profile.” This form is provided by College Board.

Your status as an international student is odd but this is the way how the colleges define international students. When I visted colleges with my friend, the admission people firmly said that those who live overseas (including American citizens) and those who do not have PR or citizenship would be counted as international applicants and their applications would be processed by the international admission representative. The ridiculous thing is that recently my friend was aske to attend an interview in Asia and the mail was sent to her home address in the US.

You should contact the financial aid offices of the schools you are applying and address your problem with the CSS Profile. Many schools require applicants to fill out their own financial aid forms or specific forms for internatinal students.

I do not know. It just lists under the colleges that I have selected some facts about international students.
EX: International Students - undergraduate only

Is this just a fact they put out there? or is this something that they see in my application and thus notify me? Perhaps I should just try to submit and see if there are any problems. In my common app, all my applications have been submitted as “US DUAL CITIZEN” so that shouldn’t have been an issue. However, I listed my permanent/Home address as my current one in Asia (but I don’t think that that is the true issue)

I will try calling the financial aid office. thanks for the suggestions so far
