I am struggling to figure out how to fill out financial information for my ncp. He lives outside of the US (South America), does not speak any English, and I have not spoken to him in a few years. I think we also have court documents which prove he abused my mom and that’s why she divorced him, but they’re all in a different language so I am not even sure if I should submit those. He also has never paid child support.
Not too sure what to do, I can’t just start looking at other schools because I was already accepted through ED (stupid… I know).
If anyone would be kind enough to share some advise, that would be awesome.
You are only dealing with one school (but if you have to turn down the ED, you’ll get to look at those other schools).
So, get the form that your ED school has for the waiver. Provide as much specific information as you can. Don’t say “I haven’t heard from him in a few years.” Say “I have not had communication of any type with my father since June 1, 20__, when I moved with my mother to the US because of domestic abuse.” Send all documents you have. If the school needs the documents translated, it can do that. If you can translate the documents, you can send a copy of the translation.
Please clarify. Are you saying that you didn’t complete the financial aid forms by the ED deadline, and you have an acceptance without a financial aid award?
If this is a college that is need aware for admissions, you might have been accepted with the anticipation that you would be a full pay student if you didn’t apply for aid.
What college?
I completed all financial aid forms, except for the section on the CSS which called for the information of the NCP. Didn’t really expect it to be an issue (dumb I know). Along with my acceptance letter, came the financial info which entailed for very generous financial aid, however it stated that everything was tentative until I showed submitted my NPC info. I emailed the school’s financial aid dep sorta explaining my situation, and they gave me a link to fill out the waiver form.
Its Colby College.
Do the waiver form ASAP…if you haven’t already done so.
Ask your high school counselor to help with the documentation that your dad isn’t in your life. In addition, find those court documents. They could help.
Good luck.
