Yes my daughter got the same email…
Son admitted - 4.3 W GPA, Pre-civil engineering major. A few of his friends were declined. In state/not local
Son admitted for pre-CS. 4.2W GPA. In state, not local
Do the parents also get an email if they are opted in on the CSU application?
I did not get an email, my daughter was admitted 2/11/2022. She received an email 4-5 days after seeing it on the portal.
We are OOS.
For CSULB and SDSU pre-major programs like pre-computer science – are students competing against each other for fewer spots in the declared major, or is every student who meets the pre-req GPA automatically accepted into these majors?
Also, for CSULB Honors - other than consideration for the President’s Scholarship, is there any difference in applying by the March 1 “First Round” deadline instead of the April 1 “Second Round” deadline? ie, are chances for acceptance to Honors the same whether applying in First or Second round? Thank you!
And congrats to all who have already been admitted!
If you meet the pre-req and GPA requirements for the pre-major then you are accepted into that major. No competition for spots as a Pre-major, the school just wants the student to
demonstrate a progressively successful academic history that reflects potential success in the major.
right, don’t be concerned about the pre-major thing. If you get accepted, you’re in. you just have to meet the minimum gpa requirements to formally move into the major and proceed into the upper level courses.
Thank you @Joe_Mihalich and @Gumbymom, that’s a relief. I wasn’t sure if it was a competitive secondary admission they had to get through.
My daughter just checked her portal and she was accepted. Thanks to all who said to check portals as she didn’t get an email.

Does anyone know about these Honors app deadlines? I’m trying to get my daughter to apply now, but she’s so burned out from applications and is hoping it can wait for the April 1 deadline. TIA!
I don’t have an answer to your question. But I must say I find it strange to ask students to apply to an Honors College before they’ve even been admitted!
Unless she is not interested in applying for the Presidential scholarship, the only down side I see could be waiting for the later deadline might mean there are fewer to no spots available in the Honors college.
I know many school’s Honors Colleges will waitlist or reject applicants once they hit their target capacity. I do not know enough about CSULB’s Honors college so you might want to contact them directly regarding your questions. My take on Honors colleges is if they offer priority registration, that is a huge plus. Not all Honors colleges are created equal so you would need to research more about CSULB’s program. They really do not give much information on their website.
Thanks @Gumbymom! She’s unlikely to qualify for the Presidential scholarship since the website says “4.0 or higher recommended”). But the website does list priority registration and the program sounds good overall, so I still want to encourage her to apply. Just don’t want her to waste her time on the second round if there aren’t many spots left. I’ll try to email them to get more info and will share if I hear back.
Yeah, I feel the same. I know they need to start making their decisions so students can make their own college choices based in part on whether or not they get into Honors College. But it’s hard to motivate some kids (mine!) when they’re burned out on applications and some kids are hearing about acceptances and they haven’t. (Mine actually did get admitted since I first posted, but so many more are still waiting).
Same thing with some scholarships apps. Many kids on the UCLA thread are filling out alumni scholarship applications, but my D had no motivation since she knows her chances just to get admitted is slim.
Thank you both!
Per the CSULB Honors Program contact I emailed today, the scholarship is the only real difference. Admissions acceptances are same across the two rounds. They suggest to apply during the first round to not miss out on the chance for the scholarship.
My son was accepted a couple weeks ago to Computer Engineering.

Same here. I checked the portal on 2/17/2022 and it says my daughter is offered provisional admission. She has yet to receive an email notification as of today 3/08/2022. I am curious if your son received the email since??
No email. We have no idea how long the admission status has been up honestly because we only checked after reading here that decisions were out.
It took 5 days for CSULB to send my son his email. Some got them sooner, some seem to have never gotten them. Doesn’t look like there’s a consistent pattern.
