CSU to CC to different CSU

So I’m a freshman at San Francisco State University and I’d like to take classes at a nearby community college. I’ve heard of cross-enrollment but I can’t find much information about it anywhere. Is it possible to take classes at SF State and a community college at the same time? Is there any special procedure I have to take or can I just sign up for classes and show up? I’m majoring in electrical engineering and I’m hoping to transfer to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Until then, I’d like to be able to take classes transferable between SF state and this CC to save on money. How feasible is this? Also, do you guys think it’ll be harder to transfer from SF state, a CSU, or transferring to CC then to Cal Poly? I’d appreciate any information. Thank you.

There should be no problem taking a couple classes at each campus - though the way CSU tuition works, (full time/part time) I don’t know why you would.

As far as transferring to CP SLO - as long as the colleges are accredited, the units will transfer. Note though, there simply aren’t many seats available for transfers. Just 1644 people were admitted as transfers last year. The school offers a significant preference ‘local’ applicants from a couple of nearby CCs. Going from SFSU to a non-designated CC won’t change your chances. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give a transfer a shot.

Do your best but, be prepared (and proud) to earn your degree at SFSU.

Good luck
