Hi, I'm currently a freshman at SFSU. I'm not happy with the education I'm getting here, and the school is a commuter school so its hard to meet people. The school doesn't have the traditional sense of the "college experience" i was hoping for. It can feel really lonely at times. I want to transfer to a UC after completing the requirements needed to transfer (hopefully 2 years or less). I plan to take courses at a cc too so I can transfer faster. However, I'm not quite sure which courses I should be taking that would transfer over. I know the requirements for transferring, but not what classes to actually take. Also, SFSU is on a semester schedule while most UCs are on a quarter schedule. How would the units transfer over? What happens if the units are given out differently? Should I consider transferring to a cc this spring or after this year? Would that be a better route? Should I maybe consider schools not in the UC system like out of state or privates? I'm getting more and more stressed out as I find more obstacles about SFSU transferring to a UC. I'm starting to wonder if I've gotten myself into a huge mess. If anyone has successfully transferred form SFSU or another CSU to a UC, please help me; I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time and help!

it’d probably be best to just leave SFSU, go to CC, and then transfer.

CSU to UC isn’t easy and you would save more money this way.

Semester units are converted to quarter units. You take less classes throughout an academic year on the semester system as opposed to the quarter system, but the numbers even out. I think the formula is (semester units) x 1.5 = (quarter units).

And the above poster is right. CSU to UC transfers are ridiculous. You are last in priority as far as transfer admissions go, and the cuts to public education are just going to lessen your chances even further.

I suggest you either drop SFSU and attend a CC full-time or consider transferring to a private. USC in particular is very transfer friendly to any kind of student, whether you hail from a community college, a UC, CSU, or an out-of-state university.

I personally know of someone who attended Cal Poly Pomona for their freshman year and then transferred to USC. I assume that if you can pull that off at one CSU then you can pull it off at another.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the advice. I’m thinking of transferring to a cc but I hear it’s really hard to get classes there. Do you think you can ask the person you know who transferred to USC to give me a profile, just so I know what I have to do (sat/act scores, high school grades, college courses taken. . .etc). Thanks again for the help.
