CSU to UCLA or... Georgetown?

Hi. I'm currently attending a Cal State and will be a sophomore in the fall. I would really like to transfer to UCLA (or, even more ideally/laughably, Georgetown).

Some questions:
- How heavily will my high school transcript + SAT scores factor into the transfer?
- Is having a 3.9+ GPA by the end of sophomore year the only realistic chance of getting into those schools?
- In sophomore year, should I be taking classes for my major or solely GEs if I plan to transfer?

I'm not going to hide anything-- I will admit, for the majority of my academic career I've been a slacker and very mediocre. In fact, first semester at Cal State I was put on probation. Needless to say, I was scared ****less and ended up having a long needed deep reflection of my priorities and of my life... and second semester I made Dean's List with a 3.6. I am determined to keep it that way and do better.

But am I too late? Have I floundered for so long that it doesn't even matter anymore?

Hm, not at all. Although I think the Georgetown transfer page states that the average is 3.7 for successful transfers, with a 3.6, you’re within reach. Transfer admissions isn’t all about GPA. Although you should work on keeping your grades up, work on creating a compelling essay and get good recommendations.

Personally, I’d recommend completing General Ed. If you’re serious about Georgetown or whatever school you consider transferring to, look at their gen. requirements and take classes at your current institution accordingly.

Depends on your major but if you have a non-impacted major to ucla, the you would be safe. My friend transferred from CSU Channel Islands to UCLA as an anthropology major with a 3.6
