CSU vs Community College to Med School

Hi,

I’m a senior in highschool and currently deciding what college to go to. I’ve been accepted in CSU Long Beach, SF State and Sacramento State. I didn’t get into the UC’s i applied to unfortunately.

I want to know what route I should take if I plan to go to Medical School. Is it better to go to a California state university such as Long Beach or go to a Community College and then transfer to a UC before going to Med School? Pro’s and Con’s?

Thank you!!

If you apply to CA med schools, the adcomms there may value a UC over a CSU, but everywhere else in the country, no one will care what CA public you attend.

Since CA is major exporter of med school applicants (seriously, UCLA’s pre meds alone could fill every single med school seat in CA with plenty leftover), plan on applying widely and outside the state.

As for college–pick the school that offers you the best combination of fit, affordability and opportunity.

tl;dr–pick the school you feel most comfortable about. Happier student = better grades.
