CSUF or SJSU for PRENURSING

I am a senior in high school living in the bay deciding between sjsu and csuf for pre-nursing. Although my major for both schools is Child Adolescent and Development, I plan to change it to nursing and apply for the nursing programs for both schools. I am having trouble deciding between each school so I was hoping I could get some insight from collegeconfidential. And I need to decide by Friday.

I understand how impacted the nursing programs are for each school and I will prepare myself for those challenges. I also know that for CSUF, they only accept 5-10 people into the program, student pathway but for SJSU they accept around 60 people. However, I plan to get involved in the NSA club for CSUF or the prenursing club for SJSU. I also plan to volunteer at any nearby hospitals nearby the schools or work as a CNA.

I really want to go to CSUF but the program is incredibly impacted, and getting classes for the pre reqs is quite difficult…from what I’ve read from other reddit posts. If the CSUF program does not work out for me in the end, I plan to transfer to other nursing programs like SDSU, CSULB, and CSULA. I also want to go to CSUf because their program only accepts CSUF students while SJSU accepts transfers so there is a possibility that I can finish my prereqs at CSUF and then apply to SJSU nursing program if I do not get accepted to CSUF’s program.

The only problem is housing. Because of the coronavirus, classes for both schools are going online for the first semester. The housing situation is going to be quite difficult for CSUF since I live in the bay but if I went to SJSU, I could just commute from home.

I know SJSU has very good connections because of the bay area but I’ve always dreamed of going to school in social.

I’m sorry if this post is all over the place, I am very scared that I will end up making the wrong choice and lose more money out of my choice. Any piece of advice helps

TL;DR: I am struggling to decide between SJSU or CSUF for pre nursing so please give any advice that would be beneficial to my situation.

CSUF is predominantly a commuter school (about three quarters of frosh do not live in the dorms), so being a resident student there may not be all that great of a college experience.

At SJSU, you need to complete three of five specified courses with a 3.2 GPA to get into undeclared pre-nursing: https://www.sjsu.edu/aars/UPN/

Then, to get into the nursing major, you have to follow a specified procedure to apply into a competitive admission process (prerequisite GPA and TEAS score): http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/catalog/departments/NURS-section-1.html

The process to get into the nursing major at CSUF is described at http://nursing.fullerton.edu/programs/elbsn/appprocess.php .

You may want to ask directly how selective they actually were in admission to the nursing major.

Unless it is much more difficult to get into the nursing major at SJSU, you may want to go there because having the option to commute from home can make things less difficult if there are COVID-19 disruptions, or if you want to save some money.
