CSULA vs Cal Poly Pomona for Computer Information Systems

I’m trying to decide between Cal State LA and Cal Poly Pomona. I have been admitted to both schools along with CSUSB, however CSUSB was only a backup. Cal Poly Pomona is a business major which seems like it only has a little CIS thrown in with the “option in Computer Information Systems.” I like CSULA more because the program seems more focused on CIS with less business thrown in. Cal Poly Pomona, however, seems to have more of the “Ooh!” factor and a lot of people I talk to seem to think it’s more prestigious. Does anyone have any guidance about these two schools - especially in regards to computer information systems?

Both are great schools. I’m not CIS but I do attend Cal Poly Pomona but I’ve also been on campus at CSULA. I agree that CIS looks more business at CPP because it’s in the College of Business. I can tell you that the campus life here at Cal Poly is a lot better than it is at CSULA. CSULA is a cool campus and it’s really urban and close to everything else in LA if that’s your thing. But the campus is pretty dead in terms of student life (far fewer residence halls, a lot more commuters). Cal Poly has a lot more residence halls, we’re a much bigger campus (2nd largest in CSU) and yes, Cal Poly definitely has that “ooh” factor because of the name. If we were talking about what campus was better, CPP wins. Which CIS program is better is for you to decide.

Yea, that’s another thing I liked about CSULA - that it’s in LA and closer to the city. I plan on commuting from the IE, so the drive might kill me. I guess I’m starting to lean more towards Cal Poly now because it’s closer and the name might look better on my resume.
