CSULB - Class of 2015

Thank you otc2010 and The Power of One!

Hey Blondie!!
Umm I read a post that your parents wouldn’t provide money for you. Are you like me and had to select “special circumstances” on the frustrating FAFSA?

No, I didn’t have to select that option. My parents are divorced and my dad’s very stingy with his money, so I’m not expecting anything from him, but my mom would provide money for me except for the fact that she can’t because there will be 3 of her children in college at the same time, and she doesn’t have that much extra money.

What do you mean by “special circumstances”?

@ThePowerOfOne…
How selective is CSULB’s honors program? I would really love to be in it, but my stats aren’t very good, so would you mind telling me if I should at least try to apply, or if it will just be a waste of time?
-SAT: 1730
Writing: 620, Reading 600, Math 510 [This is what’s been screwing me over, I suck at math! haha]
GPA: Well, my CSU gpa was 3.8, but it will only be about a 3.5 when I include freshman year. In 9th grade I really didn’t care much about school and I had a 2.5 first semester and 2.8 second, but in 10th I started a trend where I got a 3.5 first semester, then a 4.0 second semester. Then in 11th grade I got a 3.5 again and a 4.2 second semester. In my 1st semester senior year I got a 4.0 [while taking four AP classes and Advanced art] and now I’m in the second semester. Overall, there has been a definite improvement in growth throughout high school. Do you think the honors program will take this into account, or do they only like to see people who have done well throughout their entire high school career?

I know you may not know much about the honors program, but if you think I don’t have much of a chance, please let me know. I can take harsh criticism :] I just don’t want to end up wasting hours on the essay if I get rejected, you know?

@blondiex293- I can’t answer that. They don’t release information on the statistics of their accepted applicants.

Umm, well I had a 3.8 UW GPA and weighted GPA close to 4.6 by the end of HS (took 3 Honors classes and 11 APs; passed 9). My SAT scores were low though (1870). Some of the people I’ve met admitted to having GPAs way above 4.0. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t get in with GPAs lower than 4.0!!!

I would hope they would consider improvement over high school. I honestly can’t tell you if you are a good candidate or not. You can always apply. There’s no harm in that. The worst thing that can happen is you get rejected.

@tutudragon16- I guess you can do it. If you find the regular classes easy, then maybe that will tell you honors classes might be better suited for you to give you more of a challenge. Although, I think it would be easier just to apply as an incoming freshmen.

Oh okay, I see. Well there’s no hurt in trying. Thanks for the help!

well, i got my welcome folder thing finally today.

only thing that worries me is that it says this was additonal information.

did anyone get an ACTUAL fancy acceptance letter, or just the welcome packet with folder and one typed up paper?

I just got the folder today, too.

I got the ACTUAL letter a few weeks ago. Maybe someone at your house lost yours or something. Did you sort through old mail to find it?
You could also call CSULB and ask them whether or not they forgot to send it. I’m sure they won’t mind sending a new one.

heh. that’s odd.

did it contain any important information or could i live without it you think?

besides, it would have been bigger than an usual envelope size right? meh. lame. figures i get gypped out of my letter -.-

It contained…
-Information about accepting you offer of admission
-Housing information
-Letter saying you’ve been accepted
-Information about financial aid

You can find all of this online, so it’s really not that important. The folder that you received gives you all of the forms and information that you actually need.

FINALLY!!! I received my welcome folder today, I’m so happy! It makes me even more excited and makes my decision that much more difficult haha.

, random question but does anyone know what the csulb banner thing in the welcome folder is? i think its a type of adhesive thing you stick to windows, but i dont want to ruin it in case its an actual sticker,

It’s for cars haha. I had my mom put it in her car when I got it. I wasn’t sure at first either though lol

um i got the message ‘an admission decision had been made.’ over the phone.

what happened to you guys who got this?

@EvaEve03- Are you really from Nevada? If so, congrats on being accepted as an OOS student!

Haha yes I am! I’m originally from Los Angeles but I moved out to Nevada for high school for some insane reason. Oh and thank you! :)

Out of curiosity, did you use your LA address when applying?

What do you mean? Like for my official address? Nope, my address of Nevada since I’ve lived here for 5 years now, approximately. I did put that my hometown was East Los Angeles because that was one of the things you had to write down.

I am an international student with a GPA of 3.4, transfering from EL Camino CC with a major of Biology. Do you guys think I have a chance getting into CSULB? :frowning: I’m scared.
