CSULB - Class of 2015

Ahh they don’t? :[ The upperclassmen usually get first dibs at the suites lol

There’s no open house that I know of, but maybe they’ll have a spring preview sometime soon or something. I know you can sign up for a tour whenever you want to, though.

Thats surprising, you applied to CPPomona when it’s basically on a farm (I’ve visited), unless I misunderstood your earlier post and you’re actually into dead grass and cows.

Wow, that’s horrible! I’m so sorry to hear about your eye.
Makes me even madder at the class of 2012 who don’t have to take any subjects test for UC’s next year!
Sounds like you’re all set for CSULB though!

Niceee. It’s great that you made your deposit so early; best of luck.

Hopefully a decision is made by next week and I’ll go visit the campus one last time.

Hahaha yeah I know I took a tour earlier this year. I was really interested in CPP though, because I was really set on becoming an architect, and the Cal Poly schools are the ONLY CSU’s to offer architecture [which is probably why they’re so impacted]

Yeah, my dang eye hahaha. At least it saved me the trouble of spending hours writing essays

Wait, what??? They don’t have to take subject tests???

Yep, I’m pretty much set on it :] It’s a good feeling after waiting soooo long for acceptance [or rejection/waitlist] letters to come

Have you called the automated phone system for Long Beach? I called it before even getting my acceptance letter and they told me my status, so maybe if you do that you won’t have to wait for the eltter to come.

Ohhh okay gotcha that makes sense. Well…screw 'em and their 100 admitted applicants (:

Hours writing essays? There isn’t any essays on the subject test? Or do you mean just school-wise in general. Geez, must have been somewhat serious. Hope your OK now!

And yup, no subject test required next year for them.

It’s such a great feeling isn’t it. Now to just relax for a couple more months.
Keep me posted with anything CSULB please! I’ll return to this thread and well let you know if I’m accepted or not.
See ya later fellow citizen (lame :b)!

Hahahah screw those over-achievers who SHOULD be applying to Berkely and L.A instead of stealing spots at schools meant for average students hahaha.

I meant essays when applying to UC’s hahaha. Although, I’m taking four AP classes this year, so I’ve done PLENTY of hours of essays this year to make up for it lol. And there’s much more to come now that AP tests are approaching hahah

Dang, those lucky juniors!!

I’ll definitely keep you posted. Let us know about your admissions decisions at the other schools too :] Good Luck! Goodbye other fellow citizen of Riverslime hahah

Does anyone know anything about the honors program?
How hard is it to get into and how does its curriculum compare to the schools normal GE requirements.

Honors program.

Heh. Colleges have that?

Well that stinks. Being an AP kid I didn’t think I’d get guilted into taking honors stuff and longer,

Can you enter straight from high school into their program, or need to wait a semester at the university itself?

Last year, they cancelled the school-wide open house due to budget cuts. It was called Kaleidescope, so if you see an email with that it’s back on. They did have an Engineering Open House, which was great. Students took the additional math placement (they don’t just go with your SAT/ACT math score for eng) test at that time. I believe science majors had to take that test, too, but I can’t say for sure.

Dorm partying is not going to be like what you imagine i.e. like in the movies as it’s a violation of the dorm agreement and students get written up routinely. I wouldn’t worry about that at all.

The suites are relatively easy to get into if you send your housing deposit in early. Just make sure you pick your dorm/room on the day that the online system opens. Also, suites are quiet, too - I believe it’s after 10pm that they get a little stricter.

CSULB students get to ride The Passport public transit for free when they show their id. That’ll get you to the beach, shopping, movies, etc. I can’t remember if that gets you all the way to the Aquarium, but you could switch buses and pay the regular fee.

Yeah I just saw something talking about them cancelling that because of budget cuts :/

Really? Thank God it’s not like the movies. I wouldn’t be able to deal with drunk people all the time lol

Hmmm okay, well that makes me worry less about not getting good housing.

And free busing is a pretty awesome perk, especially because there are so many places to go in the long beach area

Oh, and does anyone know if getting a job on campus is pretty easy? I qualify for federal work study, so I think that might help a lot

blondie,
I don’t know about the work study jobs, but I do know that there were a few students looking for jobs this second semester in my son’s suite that didn’t finding any. They have run out of spending money. This makes me think that getting the job first semester, even if you don’t need it yet might be a good plan. Definitely plan on getting info on this while you’re at SOAR or by calling and talking to an adviser in that department (I’m sure they have their own web page).

Definitely try and rack up plenty of savings this summer. My son spends about $200 a month. He is glad he had a big savings account; Laker’s game, hockey game, snowboarding and two trips to UCSB to visit friends. There will be dorm trips, which are cheap compared to the going rate, but students provide the transportation. If you have a clean driving record, you can rent the campus ZipCar - carpool and it’s pretty cheap, especially when you consider how expensive having your own car is.

Does anyone know when you receive the financial aid award package? DO you have to accept your acceptance letter before you get it? Because while I’m extremely happy to get into CSULB I’m kinda wondering if UCLA and USC accepted me, so I’m waiting just a little longer to accept it.

Okay, definitely. If I end up not getting a job, I’m gonna be pretty screwed because my parents can’t give me any money for college whatsoever. But right now I’m used to never having extra money, so at least I’ll be used to it if I end up not getting a job lol.

I’ve already accepted my admissions decision, and I have heard nothing about financial aid awards. I don’t think financial aid comes until we’re actually read to start school

@titanis2- I’m actually in the Honors Program. For normal students, the more units you have, the sooner you can register for classes. It’s a really nice program because you get priority registration and get to pick your classes BEFORE everyone else, regardless of how much units you have. THIS IS SO IMPORTANT BECAUSE GETTING THE RIGHT CLASSES AMIDST BUDGET CUTS AND A PLETHORA OF STUDENTS ALLOWS YOU TO GRADUATE ON TIME. Most of the honors classes cover your GEs. The one’s I’ve taken are actually no harder than my non-Honors classes. You get to meet a lot of interesting, smart students. It’s a good way to meet motivated students. You will have to go out of your way to take some classes though, but I think it’s absolutely worth it! If you have a high GPA, high test scores, took a lot of APs and passed them, I say apply! You’ll have a good shot of getting in.

@EvaEve03- You should receive financial award package in a couple weeks after you have received your acceptance letter.

Ummm CSULB doesn’t really have a party vibe…well for me at least. I guess it depends who you associate yourself with. You don’t have to party if you don’t want to. And for that matter, you never have to do anything you don’t want to.

meh. now i feel like i should really pursue their honors program, darn my guilt.

i don’t think there should any harm in not doing honors program one semester right? regular classes do scare me, since in high school kids there are so unmotivated and such a waste of space (thankfulyl my only regular class has been math. i will say im a first rate dunce in that blasted subject.)

you don’t think it’ll be bad if i apply for honors program second semester right?

has anyone still not been admitted yet?

do i still have a chance if i havent been accepted by now?
