I graduate high school this year will be a freshman at cal state university long beach in the fall and Id like to know a sample of what my schedule would be like next year. What was your freshman schedule? I have good amount of AP and community college credit done already... Im not sure if that changes anything.

Math class unless you have AP Stat/Calc or CC credit

*Oral communication class OR a critical thinking classes OR a written communication class unless you have AP English or CC credit

GE class; history, political science, sociology, psychology etc.

Possibly another GE class

Do not expect to take any science classes. Unfortunately, they will be full by the time you register.

*They only let you take 1/3 of these classes first semester because they want to insure all freshmen will take one and they don’t run out of these classes. You will eventually have to take all 3 though; completing them most likely in your second semester. Those 3 classes and your math class are your FOUNDATION GEs and they need to be completed before you can take any of “more interesting classes” for the lack of better terms.

You can find a roadmap, which is a 4,5, or 6 year plan for your intended major on the csulb website. My son, a freshman engineering major, has taken 14 hours per semester, 5 classes.

@tutudragon16- Well depending on where you went for your high school, you’ll be glad to only be taking around 4 classes. HS classes do not equal college classes in terms of difficulty and time and effort spent.

And no AP English credit will only cover your written communication class. If you have both AP English credit, the other one will be counted as elective credit.

I’ve taken ROP advanced visual imagery, AP European history, AP lang, AP lit (test in may) and AP gov (test in may) I only got a 2 on the AP us test, even though I had As both semesters, so i guess I don’t get credit for that :,(. At community college ive done psychology 100, humanities 130, art 101, cultural anthropology 100, and California geology 130.

So i should only expect to be in 4 classes each semester? I know i still have math and science to do, I’m hoping ill be done with my gen Ed in less than 2 years since i have a bit done.

Hey party people, if you haven’t already know, here is a site to see which classes CSULB accept, from community college you attended. Ex. If you took MATH G235 at GWC, it counts as MATH 247 at CSULB.

“So i should only expect to be in 4 classes each semester?”

If you are so dedicated to graduating early, why not take 5 classes? I think you freshman can take up to 16 unit, and I think they will lift the “hold preventing registration” for only about 1 - 2 hour, so you could register for class online personally. wink wink

Transfer student “hold preventing registration” will be lifted on your soar day at around 1 - 3 pm, and you could go home and still change your classes if you want, even 1 week after your SOAR date.

Incoming freshman hold will be lifted on your soar day, when one of the adviser sign off on your schedule, you are then taken to one of the computer room where you will be able to log in to your “MyCSULB” and add classes directly, after that, I think they will put the hold back on.
